Upset about bookshelves?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 4:45 am

Bookshelves are a very cool thing. I just wish there were more of them. Why are there so many shelves but so few activate-able bookshelves (in my homes)?

And one of my biggest pet peeves is that you can't put all of your notes and letters on one book shelf. You can put 10 or 15 notes on one shelf. A book shelf that can only hold 10 pieces of paper is kinda ridiculous. Has any one else tried this? Does anyone else even care about the book shelves?

I play vanilla Skyrim, and it surprises me that the developers didn't put a large library type room into at least one of the Skyrim homes (Proudspire manor perhaps?).

There's a mod for this now, but I have the feeling that the developers didn't anticipate someone trying to store every piece of paper they found on a bookshelf.

You mentioned you play Vanilla, so I'll presume you're on a console. If not, try this:

As I said, I play Skyrim vanilla. At some point I will probably get to the mods but for now, I haven't even fully enjoyed the game as it is yet.

Storage is a bit lacking in this game. I have filled up all my bookshelves in all 5 houses and I still have a few containers that are stuffed with books. We could use more bookshelves.

But you're not enjoying the game as it is, hence the thread.
To each is own, but this is not going to significantly impact the playthrough of your game with the excepting of making bookshelves way better.

Thanks, when I get around to using mods I will probably try that. I do play on PC.

It's just odd because decorating is such a pain in Skyrim homes, yet there are more useless shelves than there are useful book shelves. After I purchase all the decorations for a home, I go through and pick up every item that isn't glued down and I put them into a container. Then I try to decorate what I can with items from my adventure. But I find placing items on the non-activating shelves to be more trouble than it's worth.

Indeed, I agree fully. And one thing I would love to see is a smarter bookshelf that can accomodate the types of object you put in it. I think it would be so cool to see all my notes and letters jammed into one shelf. since they are all basically flat I don't understand why you can only put a small number of these on a shelf.

I thought they made shelves bad because of the whole Ogmha Infinium issue

Agreed several more, I put out my very interesting books or rare books. We need more houses and bigger houses for all of our loot.
I have I do not know how many books shoved in two containers.

The mod I linked allows you to put about 90 notes and letter on one single shelf.

I love bookshelves for ONE reason. One reason.
I don't store books on them. I evolve from them.

I suspect the bookshelves cannot distinguish between books and notes, which is why your notes are limited in number even though there is physical space for many more.

Hopefully they get all the bugs in bookshelves worked out. I'd hate to loose my precious books.

Yeah, It would be nice to get more. The wizard tower you got in DLC for Oblivion had a bunch of shelves. Vlindrel Hall has three shelves next to each other which is not too bad.
