But haven't been hooked to the internet for a while, so I dont have the latest one. Is there anything game breaking about it? Or should it be fairly safe for me to update?

I've heard sometimes all peoples gold and stored items dissappear but it seems like a VERY rare issue. I haven't had any major issues really.
