2nd playthru

This was my first ES game, though I'm going to try Obliv. I have a couple questions for my second time.
I played a fighter, bow sniper type and spread out skills each level up. I never reached 100 in any of them.
Is it better that way or better to focus on a couple and get them maxed? I know 'better' is subjective....but your thoughts are welcome.
I have a handful of mods but I think I want to add the portable camp site and a nonhardcoe food/sleep mod. any suggestions?
I finished the MQ around level 40, going slower this time, what level are you when you finish? I did some of the misc quests after the MQ but decided to restart, I found the first 1/3 most enjoyable.
Thanks for reading and any comments.......

I think it's better to pick a few skills and focus on improving just those. I find that when I try to use a ton of different skills, I never really get good at any of them, I end up just having like a dozen skills at 40-50. But that's just my opinion, I don't think there's really any "right" answer, I'm sure there are good arguments for either style.

As for your other two questions, I can't really help you. I play on the 360, and I have'nt finished the MQ yet.

As far as power is concerned, your character will be a far more formidable opponent if he focuses on 2 or 3 major skills. I also enjoy playing with different characters specializing in certain areas instead of a jack of all trades because it allows you to have a myriad of unique character types to try out, which allows you far more game time. I typically play a thief, assassin, mage, and warrior to start, each focusing on 2 or 3 fitting skills. I finished my first play through as a warrior nord who did the main quest and the companion's guild questline, as well as a scattering of miscellaneous quests. I was in the forties, but he's closer to fifty now. I keep coming back to do different things with him.

I prefer to have a certain number of core or major skills, and several other minor skills. Right now I'm playing a Nord warrior (heavy armour +shield and axe or sword). I don't even use magic, so I put no points in there, nor in things like sneak, archery or alchemy which I'll not use this playthrough. It's rewarding to stick to a character luike that rather than slowly become a master at everything.

With regards to mods, the campsite & food mods are great. Others like http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11163 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4272 or http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10591 keeps the game challenging. But other than those, get mods that complement your playing style (i.e., weapons & armour if you play a warrior or http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10520 if you're a mage).

If you focus on one skill you will always have excess perk points to spend. Just pick 3-4 main combat skills and use those. Then perk them out properly as you level up. If you use both a 2hd sword and bow but you cant put any perks into bow, don't waste them, put one in 2hd as well. Chance is by the time you get that skill high enough you will have leveled anyways.

Totally depends on what you enjoy doing. A jack-of-all-trades is a perfectly viable character in Skyrim. A character that decides his perks randomly would be "viable". If it's fun, do it. When it stops being fun, stop doing it. I prefer to pick 5 skills to perk and leave the remaining skills unperked, even if I use them.
