How come there are no mixed races?

I don't remember seeing any half-argonians or half-elves or half-orcs in any TES game. Is it a lore issue? Can the races not interbreed?

I take it you never bothered to read the Lore then, or are you just unable to find it?

I read a lot of the books when I first played Morrowind, but don't remember much of it.

I am pretty sure Karliah is a mix race because she has some features that Dark Elves to not normally have, I believe this is mentioned on the uesp.net

bretons are a mix between elves and early humans

as for the rest, lore says the child will always be the same race as the mother, but i think they might get some traits from their father if less obvious

Cool. Still wonder why we've/I've never come across any half-breeds.

Edit:

N/M.

So Bretons are essential "half-elves."

Lets be honest. If you were a human or an elf, would you reproduce with a lizard? I hear there are special sites for people like this... and none of them are legal, lol

Wasn't The Gray Prince a half-breed? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:The_Gray_Prince

To be honest all the kids in Skyrim look the same anyway, both male and female. Heck I never knew that Braith was a Redguard until I read in the Wiki who her parents where.

Note that in the Mara Temple in Riften that Maramal (a Redguard) and Dinya (a Dunmer) are married. I would assume their child would be a Dunmer, but since Skyrim has no Dumer children we will never know.

... Or maybe they are there and we just can't tell the difference.

It's just too much of a pain in the ass to design all the possible admixtures.

That's why that book about interbreeding exists--to quell all the annoying questions.

But you need to take it with two great big dollops of salt.

Imperials and Bretons are the results of extensive, long-term intermixing between various races. It's just that the process is slower in Tamriel than on earth.

And bear in mind that in-universe, there's no biological way to distinguish a Nord from a Breton. Sure, one might be taller and paler, but you can never be certain, given variation. And a Breton with a Nord father would probably get some physical traits from him.

Imperials are darker in Skyrim then they were in the past. Might they have been mixing with Redguards?

It's a design issue. Bethesda would have to design races with mixed features, which I assume would be a pain, so while mix breeding may happen, the child will always take the race of the mother.

Imperials are darker in Skyrim then they were in the past.

I think it just because all the races have more depth and detail. Imperials have always supposed to be more Mediterranean looking. I think this is obvious by the Roman influences and the names etc. Its good as it gives people an opportunity to identify themselves with their character. If someone feels they are more Mediterranean or loves that part of the world, they can role play a fantasy version of one. That is the heart to rpg.
