Helmets Too BIG

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:19 am

This is almost definitely never going to be addressed, but I wish the helmets were way smaller and fit individual heads better. I can't wear any helmets so far except for the hide helmet on my Altmer male's head, because they are all so ridiculously large that it looks like a Carrot Top prop gimmick for his stand-up. Why can't the helmets be just a tiny bit larger than the actual head, instead of being all bigger than football helmets are? Why do they have to be so comically gigantic? Even Fallout 3 has smaller helmets and those are big as well. Does this bug anyone else as much as me?

P.S. - And what about the bows and quivers clipping into each other as well as floating so far away from the back? Ugh...

Yeah they do look strange especially on my khajiit, they were probably designed only for nord heads and just stretched them for the rest.

Too big for you eh? I've got the exact opposite problem where the helmet that I gave to my follower, which is the wolf helmet, is too small and her head actually pokes through the sides of the helmet. It looks so weird.

They have to fit all head sizes so the standard is just fitting the biggest head. If you are using a "small person" like bosmer ... that is unfortunate ... but exactly how the world works.

Khajiit heads are radically different, lower and longer. Some full helmets have the same design for human and Khajiit but you see that it's 5 cm to short and 5 to high
Other like the forsworn headdress is just part of the mesh put on back of head.
However some items like circlets work nice.

This is why I wish they made the helmets morph to the character when worn, although, I can understand why they wouldn't do that, as you would have different sized helmets everywhere which would be weird as well.

...Actually, having the characters head morph to the helmet would make more sense and would be more ideal.

They look good on female characters (maybe it's just me), but on males they are quite ugly. Only full faced helmets (Dwemer, Daedric) looks good on a male character.
Luckily I only play in 1st person and with a female companion so I'm content.

I only every played an imperial or nord, so I can't say for the beast races, but I didn't have this problem. The only time I noticed something was when you had a heavy helmet on a light cuirtass. (Ie, iron helmet on shrouded armour just looks rediculously stupid) However, Iron helmet goes great with iron armour.

Also, this is high fantasy, all armours look silly to some degree.

I have found that helmets for male characters are larger around the jaw to accommodate for beards. Female variations of helmets are more form-fitting. The real injustice is I cannot recreate my aunt Judy in Skyrim complete with facial hair. FIX THIS BETHESDA.
