the swinging spiked-door mechanism

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 4:09 pm

God, how I hate those doors. Sure, the first time you encounter one, you might not see the trigger on the ground at first, and get a minor shock out of it. But eventually learn to spot these traps and deliberately avoid them. Then you have the incompetent followers of any kind at all... Why can't they just follow in my footsteps and NOT step on the trigger? They completely ruin my buzz by stepping on it and hurting me all the time -.- Please give me smarter followers!

Not if you're on console. And you shouldn't have to get a mod to fix that anyway.

And yes. I hate those doors...

Since I know they are going to step on it I run ahead of the trap so it swings behind me.

Well, even though I hate the doors immensely, I don't think I'd actually use the mod just to get rid of it, even if that was capable on ps3. It's a part of the game, it just bugs my brains out ^^

Yeah, I do that too :) But they're still incompetent followers for not being able to see the triggers. I remember one time, it took Lydia like 5 times before she actually managed to pass the bloody door without (nearly) getting killed. She got knocked back and on her knees every time ^^

I don't use followers for this type of reason, but I found that telling the follower to wait and then dropping an item (a weapon will do) onto the mechanism will spring the trap and then keep it sprung for you to tell the follower to *go over there*. Then pick up your item off the mechanism and march happily on your way (after avoiding the mechanism yourself :ermm: felt I should add that part).

Thank you for that tip! :D Had some similar thoughts, but not that in particular, so thank you :)

What annoys me is that you can't shoot arrows through the spaces in between the Falmer spiky doors (the ones with the three, big, curved spikes).

Instead of that their path finding shouldn't svck in the first place. If you avoid a trap they should too.

I"m a little disappointed that those doors aren't more of an insta kill kind of thing. A giant iron door with spikes etc. should take out even the strongest monster (source http://www.yourprops.com/movieprops/original/4d56c8a97730c/Star-Wars--Return-Of-The-Jedi-1983/Rancor-Pit-Gate-Control.jpg)
But if that were the case and your followers still set them off it would be pretty annoying.

Wuld straight over the trigger once you get it. Swings to slow to hit youand too fast to hit your follower if you were running ahead of them.

The trick is to sneak past the trigger plate, and stay moving in a straight line...your follower should follow you in that case and miss the trap. If you veer away from the straight line, they will react to your direction change immediately, rather than following in your exact footsteps. It works in most cases except for the few really tight spots.

... My followers almost always follow my path of walking around the triggers O.o I think I've only ever had one follower be hit by one of them - my housecarl from Markarth.

Nice, has to try it out.
Also the sliding door can also be used the other way, very fun then groups of enemies run into it and get hit multiple times.

Yeah. Slow down, let them catch up, then walk at the side of it. I hardly have any followers set off traps now.
