Has anybody accidently remover his character before? : V

I saved a file of my main character on my assasin character by accident. :dry:

So i just lost a lvl 37 assasin. But i will look at it on the bright side, i have spent quite alot of my skillpoints on more damage based skills then stealth skills. Now i will start over and spend it on stealth kills and use illusion magic to.

I stupidly deleted my one and only save some weeks back (I only play one character) - some blessed individual taught me this resurrection spell. Go to

C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

In there you'll see files named

autosave.ess.bak

or

Save .ess.bak

Look for the dates and times they were created, and choose the one(s) you want to bring back to life.

Rightclick to rename it and, delete the ".bak"

so its filename now ends with the ".ess". The .bak makes it a back-up file, so your game doesn't show it at the loading screen; remove the .bak, and the game can see it again. When you reload the game it should appear there as normal.

This absolutely saved my life, and the lives of the many many people I would have slaughtered on the inevitable killing spree I would have committed if I couldn't get my character back. I hope it helps you too.

Luckily I have auto backup, so whenever I make a change to a file (a.k.a. by saving) it'll be uploaded to a server automatically.

^{I sadly use a ps3, i don't think i can use that trick for the ps3. If i had a good computer i would have bought it for the pc.}

I have never lost a character before, since I make a new account on my PlayStation for every character I create. That way I never accidentally overwrite old files.

That PC trick is awesome! I usually have 2 saves for each character, and when I save I zoom out into 3rd person view and look directly at my character for a visual aid.

Lost a level 48 before. Didn't really matter though, it was an account I wasted a lot of perks on.

On my first character, I only quicksaved. Then I decided to start a new character, and I quicksaved on it. Oops.

Lost characters in Oblivion, was a lot of work to find them again in +2000 savegames.
Using the same name on multiple characters is an mistake
