At what point should I consider Skyrim an Addiction?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:36 pm

I've never put 65 hours into a game before. And after 3 months of having Skyrim, I'm pushing 67 hrs. I'm starting to become afraid that I am spending too much time on it. Any advise on how many hours of gameplay you'd consider to be a medical Addiction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the help.

When your wife leaves you, your boss fires you, your dog starves to death and you don't care- you might be addicted.

That's about an hour a day on average, if you told me you was brushing your teeth or picking your nose for an hour a day, I would consider that an addiction but playing games for an hour a day is fine, your perfectly healthy :)

Belive it or not 65 hours is NOT MUCH for 3 months. Do the math, 67/(30x3)=.74 hours a day. 75% of 60 min is 45 min. 45 min every day isn't that big a deal.I've put 115 hours in and im still doing a tone of other stuff. I'm keeping up on my college work and not being a shut in. Just play in your free time when your not doing anything else and don't worry about it.

It`s not about the hours.

the worry comes if you are putting off important things you know you should be doing to play Skyrim. the more you find things being left behind or work not being done or staying off school or phoning sick to work or arriving late to work just to play Skyrim is when you should consider uninstalling the game and leaving it for a few weeks.

If your screen goes blank, you need to stop gaming and pay your electricity bill.

I'm at around 300 hours and I haven't been playing much in the last three weeks. It's pretty typical to put hundreds of hours into playing a TES game, though not everyone does.

Only 65 hours? I have put in 168 since launch and an equal amount into other games so you're fine. I would not worry until you're logging more hours per week in Skyrim than at work.

Uh-oh. Guess I need to worry now. Although, I suppose I could subvert that worry into in-game tension for my character ... yep, fuel for another 300 hrs.

I was off work since before christmas with a major illness...so I've racked up nearly 700 hours. It pretty much kept my mind active, because the other alternative would have been soap operas and inane shows where a panel of questionables tell you why feel bad about your daughter marrying her drug dealing cousin from the backwoods.

the game is overall awesome. Id say you spent a good amount on your first character but thats why you make another and take him on the opposite path. The one good thing about every bethesda game is the replayability.

I've spent 260 hours, and about 60 the first week alone.
Paired with this I have school, bass guitar lessons, Tae-Kwon-Do, friends and sleeping problems.
I had a nasty infection in my airways back in the end of November, so I slept all day the first two days and played almost all day the following 5 days.
I am also actively modding, currently occupied with 3 projects.

If I can take this and can honestly say I'm not addicted, I think you're fine.

Just to add to my post, I have played for 2 hours the last 2 weeks.

Three characters, 412 hours, since release.

But, I play most of the day since I'm retired.
