Why I hate the Forbidden Legend quest

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:12 am

One of the Gauldurson brothers, Sigdis Gauldurson, has this annoying habit of creating clones of himself that die with 1 shot and teleports randomly so you never know which one is him. And they can all shout

Defeating him in his tomb was hard enough. But in the end you meet the happy family again, and when it's Sigdis' turn, he creates about 5 clones. So you have 6 of these beasts fighting you, not knowing which one you need to kill. But that's fine with me. What annoys me is that I practically can not play. Because every 10 seconds (I counted, sometimes it's less) I get Unrelenting Force and fly around the place. I literally spend more time getting hurled around and getting up than fighting. If I get 2 hits after getting up (don't forget you have to run torwards the enemies afterwards) it's a lot. Usually I don't get to hit anyone, let alone the right one.

Games are supposed to be fun. I understand that making games harder increases the fun, but when you spend 10 seconds playing and 20 getting up, it's not just hard, it's pathetic. I'm having no fun, I just want the quest to be over, I'm not enjoying it. 6 Draugr Deathlords screaming Fus Ro Dah at you as soon as you get up isn't fun, it's just a cheap way of increasing difficulty.

Yep.

This is why I enjoyed it so much more on my Assassin chick.

In case you hadn't noticed the real Sigdis is the one with the helmet that is different from the other two. I believe his is the one with horns pointing downward.

I vaguely remember this battle. It was pretty cool. It was more elaborate and lengthier than most. I didn't get knocked down as much as you did. Maybe 3 times. Didn't find it particularly tedious or frustrating. I liked this battle on the whole. I wonder why you were being knocked down so much.

I noticed, but it doesn't matter. I rarely have time to hit any one of my targets, let alone be selective and look for the one with the spiral horns.

I forgot to mention: when they blast me away, I reach the step where the Gauldursons are, which is inaccessible through normal means, but apparently you can get shouted up there. So when I try to get down it's impossible, and my arrows don't hit their targets. This increases my opinion that Beth didn't really test this quest out, because getting blasted all the time and a bugged access to a 'cage' area sounds like stuff that shouldn't be in a quest.

It was annoying on my Warrior type, but I got it done with medium amounts of frustration. I was playing on Adept - I'm sure I would've crushed my controller and smashed the disk if I had tried it on Master. :P

When I do this quest, I usually have a follower and summon the Dremora and I don't think Sigdis can fool them. I don't remember but does every clone appear on your compass? I use a compass and I don't remember multiple entities appearing there when he's cloning. :tes:

I never had much trouble with this fight. Not sure what the difference is, though. It does help if you've got the heavy armor perk that limits stagger and also have Paarthurnax train you in Yol. This means an enemy Fus Ro Dah can at most stagger you, not toss you around. Otherwise, staying at range helps. I don't think my mage had much trouble in this fight, either, though she did get tossed a couple times.

Also, you didn't say what difficulty you play on? No shame in lowering the difficulty, or backing out of a tough dungeon and coming back once you level up. I've had to do that a few times.

Yeah, his clones show up on the compass. They're treated as regular enemies in that instance.

like someones else noted he is the one with the different helmet , alo a simple ward will protect you from a fusroh dah or unrzllznring force till you get close enough to bash him and hit him a few times before he teleports away ; keep repeating this till he is death

Yaknow how absolutely annoying it is when mages almost reflexively throw up their Wards and completely tank whatever Shout you just blasted them with?

...It works both ways.

Like buckom, I had an easier time with a sneak type character than my mage. I had built my archer skill high enough that the clones weren't too much trouble. That and a follower and a conjured storm atronach helps.

Use wards if you are a mage, else...
what i did was run and hit with a bow. When they are about to shout, run for your lives.
Oh, and bring along the sanguine rose. If you have invisibility spell or power, use it.
That guy is a pain to kill.

Stay away, use archery, a follower and conjure flame atronachs. This makes the fight much more tractable.

I used Spellbreaker, because its ward (as well as all other wards) blocks Unrelenting Force.

Yes, Spellbreaker is what taught me that wards block shouts. I wasn't trying to ward, I was just hiding behind my shield, essentially, and realized a Deathlord wasn't knocking me around anymore. Handy, that. Much of what I learn in this game is by accident, or simply the hard way. :)

This is the only way I can do it without losing my mind. I stay up by the table where you put the amulet pieces, backed into the corner in sneak mode. Let the follower and summoned Dremora (Sanguine Rose) hold their attention while I pick them off with my bow. I won't lie, with my first two characters I HATED this quest, but the third learned from her predecessors and the fourth is actually looking forward to it.

Thanks. I often don't use the compass. I tend to just pay attention to what's happening in the area. I'll just keep doing that. :tes:
