WTF Bethesda!?!? NPC Mage hits 200 health character with 3 i

You say that like it's a bad thing. Dangerous enemies = fun. Enemies that tickle you = boring.

This.

Why should one wander the wilds of Skyrim and not feel imminent danger every once in awhile?

What the hell?

I have a 25th level battlemage with 200 health and a Mistwatch Bandit hits me 3 times with ice bolt (single cast) and kills me? Even though my ice bolts have 40 pts each with all things MAXED???

So that would be at least 5 ice bolts.... meanwhile I hit him with over 10 (10!) maxed out firebolts and he still stands?? That's .... 400+ damage.

This is BS!

Ergh.

Do you post a complaint every time your character gets killed?

I sincerely hope Bethesda never make this game easy enough to keep idiots like you happy.

The majority of players experienced this 'baptism of fire' at lower levels, we just didn't bother complaining about it.

Are you playing with mods? even if you don't, is it really so strange that you meet a character in the game who is vastly superior to yours? There's a good way to deal with these situations, RUN.

Just like how you need good armor rating to not get slaughtered by Bandit Chiefs, you need high MAGIC RESISTANCE to act as your "magic armor". It is less straight forward to achieve though. Agent of Mara gives you permanent 15% passive, Lord stone 25% passive, and then you can use rings/neclaces/shields to achieve more.

Honestly find a Bandit Chief and let him hit you wihthout any armor on. It is the same with mages if you don't have magic resistance. Though the way the player scales differently from enemies is wierd.

Edit: My grammar svcks. Since the newest forum update my browser (Firefox) spellcheck hasn't been working ONLY on this site. Anyone else have this problem?

Alchemy is your friend here, pretty easy to make decent restrict frost + fire potions. If you use +alchemy enchants you can get them past 85% resist.
No it might not help you if you get ambushed by an mage but you can pretty much ignore dragon breath with one.

I don't mind occasionally stumbling across a really strong mob, I just wish it was possible to escape. Even with high stamina, there are mobs that seem to be ungodly fast. Bears in particular are fast as hell and never seem to run out of stamina. And then there's the occasional spawn crazy mob. I stumbled across FIVE saber tooth cats. At level 12. You're lucky to survive a fight with one of them at that level, but five? I only got away because I was playing a wood elf and was able to use my racial skill to make them non-hostile. Otherwise, I'd have been toast.

I do think the difficulty of some mobs need to be tweaked, if only to allow your character to escape from battle by the skin of their teeth. I don't mind difficulty, but some of these mobs are so heavily loaded against the player that it's damn near impossible to beat them without exactly the right setup.

I recall a few companions quests where I'd end up fighting around 5 bandits at once, sometimes including a boss. I'd have to reload several times before I got lucky. With a new character, I decided to commit to leveling alchemy, and not rely on restoration for healing. When I got back to these areas with the new character, I may have had to spam potions, but I didn't have to reload. Now, at ~lv 65, similar encounters may require one health potion.

Recently, I was fighting a trio of thalmor after freeing a stormcloak prisoner, and a thief demanded my money mid-battle. Instead of having to reload and getting upset, my Nord took minimal damage and I was able to laugh at the situation, because he was able to take on 3 thalmor and a thief himself with his 500 health and max armor rating. That included the dialogue with the thief as the thalmor were stabbing my Nord in the back.

There are also occasions when I'm in a dungeon and end up fighting 2-3 draugr deathlords (sometimes an overlord) at once, and at least one will shout me on my ass, and while my Nord is getting back up, they are pelting him with arrows. If he wasn't so durable, he'd easily be dead. Instead, my Nord got back up, and took out the small army of draugr deathlords one by one and moved on.

My Nord gets blindsided by sabercats frequently while outdoors. He just pulls his sword out, turns around and kill them in one or two hits, as if they were some fly.

While these tough fights can be frustrating at lower levels, they become fun at higher levels. If mages give you trouble, increase magic resistance and call it a day. For everyone else, it's all about boosting health and armor rating.

Yup. Funny thing, is within a couple hours of complaining in thehttp://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320372-report-update-issues-here-dec2011/page__view__findpost__p__20369587 thread it started to work, after weeks of not working. Go complain in that thread and maybe it will work for you too. It was rather odd really.
