Sneak Attack - Slit Throat?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:29 pm

This animation was scene at the Skyrim trailer.

I was wondering how does one activate it or did it even come into the final product? I go up behind people in Sneak mode and use a power attack but it doesn't do the animation. Does said power attack need to be able to take down the guy in one blow or what? Must it only be with daggers?

It randomly happens when your attack would kill the enemy in one hit.

Will a one-hand sword work? And must you be behind the target or can you be from any position?

It has to be a sneak attack, so you should be behind them. Not to mention the animation you're describing occurs with your character behind the enemy. It MIGHT have worked with a 1H sword, but with 15x multiplier using a dagger it's been a long time since I tried.

Happens to me ridiculously often with 30x backstab daggers.

A one hand sword can also get the slit-throat animation, and you don't have to be behind your target, you just have to be in stealth when you deliver the blow. Of course, that usually means being behind the target, unless you have a good level of stealth and you're both in a pretty shadowy spot.

The x15 works with a dagger, I did it just to see how strong it was for daggers, since I really wasn't sure even though I knew it'd be pretty darn strong. I was surprised to see the animation, pretty neat.

I would assume using a 1h Sword would do the same thing, or even provide a more brutal finisher.

Technically you have to be undetected. So if you can find some way to stand in front of them undetected them you might be able to pull it off.

Happens to me all the time- I'll be stealthed in a shadow, an enemy will spot my follower and come after them, passing right in front of me in my shadowy hideout.... Another throat bites the dust.

Ah, the old passing-backstab ploy. I love it and its what makes Mjoll such a great follower for a high-grade sneak with daggers - she can't sneak worth a damn so is always spotted but she is mean enough to take care of herself if too many bad guys get past you (leaving you free to weave around back-stabbing those that are queueing up for their turn in front of Mjoll's axe).

It can be trigger most often by using a sneak attack from behind and with a dagger.

One can get a x15 multiplier to the damage with a perk in the Sneak skill tree. The damage can be doubled with a unique set of gloves leading to a x30 multiplier.

I've activated sneak killmoves from the front before, though it's pretty hard to get. You drive your dagger (or sword) into the target's heart.

that's one thing I'd like them to put in with dlc - more killing animations - you see the same one far too often. I know there are some mods but you still have to activate the specific one. Why not have a list that would randomly play?

Sneak is a must. I have also on occasion gotten a dagger backhand decapitation in sneak from the front.
