Luck so bad, it made me open a beer.

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:22 pm

Well, truth to be told, I was about to open the beer anyway.

Spoiler
I was doing the Winterhold questline, and had just started fighting the magical essence things that spawn in Winterhold after "Revealing the Unseen" in Mzulft. It was on master level so it was tough. I had 2 down...when a dragon showed up.

Magical worm things flying around everywhere, and a dragon landing on buildings and blowing fire at me. I side stepped the first blast and Faralda and Arniel Gane took it. Whew! I turned to target another magical thing and try to stay out of the way of the dragon, when the Courier arrived.

He freezes me in place with dialogue, while worms fly, and fire blasts all around me.
1 second. 2 seconds. 3 seconds... still talking....10 seconds...still talking....25 seconds...still talking. 35 seconds "...all done"! And I take a fire blast from above and die, because I couldn't move, and couldn't escape the dialogue.

I laughed, and flipped the bottle cap into the trash can.

I don't believe the courier talks for more than ten seconds, faster if you skip the dialog.

You know I had that happen with the dude that give's you his stolen property. 2 dang sabrecat's, Iona was taking care of one, but the other got me.

But you can just press B, can't you?

If you can it didn't work for me. I hit "B" about 10 times, hoping it would work.

Similar experience happened to me while I was playing for the first time in weeks the other day. I play on master too, with difficulty mods. (PISE, WIS, ect) I was like 339/340 encumbered and I happened upon a bandit fort. I wouldn't have attacked them but a sabertooth tiger thing started mauling me in the butt, forcing me to run towards the camp on the off chance they would attack it instead of me. As I approached the entrance, a dragon started circling. I killed a bandit while taking arrows in the face; Lydia managed to kill the tiger. I had 2 potions so the dragon would have kicked my ass (Deadly Dragons too). As I'm getting hit with more arrows and pausing to drink my only potions, what do you know... an idiot thief appears, forcing dialogue and placing his enchanted iron WARHAMMER in my inventory by force. By the time I got him to cancel dialogue I was being breathed on by the dragon. Forgetting about being encumbered, I attempted to walk away from the deadly flames and died...

I run into something like this who was less spectacular but more beer friendly.
I was walking along a road, saw some people around an campfire, detect life showed that they was friendly so I walked up to them, now one of the walked over and start talking offering me an drink, at the same time an Thalmor patrol had come the other way and attacked me.

Yeah, I wish the couriers and thieves would get the "this person is busy" message when they try to approach me during a fight!

It's sad to see Skyrim makes people turn to the drink. For me it's the other way round. But yeah, what you described was an exceptional situation. :)

When it absotively, positutely, has to reach the Dragonborn, rely on Skyrim Couriers! Or, "Neither snow, nor rain, nor dragon breath, nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

On the PC, when you're talking to an NPC, and you have sub-titles turned on (I do because of a TV going in the room), you can left click on the sub-titles and advance the text/dialogue as fast as you can click. You just have to be careful and not click through the next box of topics that comes up while talking.

But, that sounds like an awesome fight you had there.

Again, on the PC, keep hitting Tab fast till it interrupts the discussion - which it will eventually, then go to potions and heal yourself. Only problem is you could lose an entire conversation, because it doesn't always come back up afterwards.

Good luck.
