How to get the actual value when selling gear?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:40 pm

Hi.

As the header says, I would like to get a hint on how to get the most value of something I want to sell.
Is it all about speech?

I use to collect most of the good gear I find in dungeons, but the actual money i get for it when I sell is not even half of the items value displayed when I look at it in my inventory.
It would have been nice if the displayed value for the weapon, armour, potion or whatever...would be the one i get when I sell it to any vendor.
I always upgrade improve it and also some enchanting to raise its value.

Do I need to fill something up with perks to get its actual value?

Thanks for any answer

/stefan

You need to level speech and get the essential speech perks.

  • You can invest points into the speech tree.
  • You can also brew potions/enchant gear that make transactions more in your favor.
  • Thieves Guild Hat is a free item which improves this as well.
  • Improve weapons/armor and enchant before selling. It's true this doesn't change the relationship between wholesale/retail with the merchant, but it gets you some extra cash and allows you to skill up blacksmith/enchanting.

There are a few items what makes buying cheaper for you and selling more expensive for the merchant.

You need to accept that you sell at wholesale and buy at retail. So, you will always sell for less than the stated value of the item. As stated above, Speechcraft, and in particular the Perks that increase Merchant Money are key to getting the most gold for an item. However, even then, sell price will be a fraction of the stated value.

No, but have you ever talked to an Atronach? As I have spoken to Scamps and Mudcrabs, but no Atronachs I felt it was my privelege to fix your post.

It was a (thinly) veiled hint at the components needed for a fortify barter potion.

You don't understand. There are no scamps in Skyrim; I had to find a replacement. Mudcrabs, scamps, atronach normally don't have conversation.

Oh, you meant it like that.
Well, atronachs are the closest if you need it to be Daedra. If not, I think Falmer or Nord children resemble the most.

Thanks!

Now i get a better understanding of this.
And it makes me to rather put valuable perks in other "trees" and just accept the lower price (the gold grows anyway).
It was just the curiosity about what the always higher shown value...now I know what it′s all about.

As always...helpfull ppl here :-)

It's a shame they got rid of Mercantile skill. I liked haggling for prices.

There are no scamps in Skyrim...

The only reason they used Scamps and Mudcrabs in Morrowind was when applying the Merchant function to them, they did not follow the rules of Mercantile, in other words gave full price. It is how I built a Merchant Dog for my home in Morrowind.

Now, the question becomes, does it work the same way in this game, to add the Merchant Function to a Beast......

Something about the way you post leads me to believe you know more than you let on. Intentional?
Then again, half this thread confused the poor guy running my mind, mudcrabs and scamps were merchants in Morrowind? o0
Maybe there is one or two, somewhere... Is that implying somewhere in the base game is a beast merchant? 0o

Creeper in Caldera and then between Vivec and Seyda Neen was a Drunken Mudcrab on an island.

Unfortunately, I know no more; I haven't run everywhere so far. I'm utterly unable to remember if there were such things in Oblivion too.

Yes, his speech is slurred and he initially only sells booze, but he has 10,000 gold and will buy weapons and armor. He will also buy Skooma, but so will Creeper.

Well for starters the merchants always run out of gold before I'm done selling my loot anyway, so if I was getting a better price this would just be worse.

Second there is no need for more gold. It is so easy to get rich in this game that it is pathetic. If you are really broke you can just chop wood to make money.
