Hunger Tiredness Thirst Warmth

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:38 pm

I'm not sure what rewards could be used for food/drink that would stay in the center between imbalance and pointless ... I'll have to think about that.

Maybe have food/drink have a slight fortify health/stamina effect, but a duration similar to the stews. There should be a cap, of course -- something like 10%? And the % boost could be tied to the weight of the food and/or whether it's been cooked, so that, e.g., a carrot might provide a 01% boost, a cheese wedge or bread 2%, and cooked beef or a drink 3%.

Just a thought.

i'd love it, but they won't put it in and I'm on ps3 so I can't use mods.Also. thats a good point lilbear. Foods seem like they should have bonuses like +5 health for 5 hours

Try Fallout New Vegas, hardcoe mode.

It's a cool idea, but sort of turns out more tedious than anything though. I would welcome this feature in Skyrim though.
I never found Fallout's hardcoe mode tedious. In fact, I miss its presence in Skyrim.

Well, one of the reasons I was going with % vs. bonus points was that with points it'd almost certainly wind up being OP early game and approach pointless by mid-game (for most character builds, anyway) -- where that OP/pointless line would cross would depend on whatever cap was chosen.

And I think I'd go with a duration similar to the stews, though maybe a bit longer. If the duration is too long you lose the metagame side-benefit of having to incorporate its effect on encumbrance when planning missions/trips/quests. Otoh, if the duration is too short it simply becomes a "eat your heart out" before expected fights.

I already spend too much time micro managing my loot and home...if they added hunger and all that then i would have no time to actually play the game

Imp's More Complex Needs + Frostfall. IMCN even keeps track of blood alcohol level.

I installed it, but it messed with my game and wouldn't let me open the character menu. :sadvaultboy:

You're looking for a "life simulation" rather than a game. Nothing wrong with the concept, but to take a game and try to make it into something else is just going to frustrate you. There's a lot in Skyrim that you have to have a healthy suspension of disbelief to enjoy. I beleive my character is eating... resting... and yes, using the bathroom, even though I don't engage it in any of these activities. Forcing me to hit keys to do these things would make skyrim feel like one of those virtual pets that were so popular for a few weeks a few years ago.

Agreed

I play on console where you cannot do this type of thing as a mod. I would love to have an optional feature that would gradually reduce health and stamina if you went too long without food or sleep.

You say "life simulation" like it is a bad thing. Sure, no one wants to take a leak or a dump in a video game. That's just gross. But Skyrim already has food and drink and beds you can use. What is wrong with implementing, as an optional feature, a realistic hunger/fatigue system? This type of mod has been out for Oblivion for years and a lot of people use it and enjoy it.

But for the majority of Skyrim players who play on a console and cannot use mods, there is no option for a realistic hunger/fatigue system unless Bethesda implements it. If it is an optional feature that has to be switched on through the options menu it won't interfere with folks like you who don't want it but it help other folks enjoy roleplaying more.

As it stands right now food is fairly useless in terms of healing. Spells and alchemy/potions do a much better job. I'd personally love to see an optional "hardcoe/Realism" mode similar to FONV. The warmth thing would be an interesting addition as well. I thought it's fairly silly to be wearing a topless fur armor in the middle of a snowstorm. The Studded Leather, Scaled Armor, Iron Armor, Banded Iron, etc. although cool looking, always seemed like a mismatch to me given Skyrim's climate.

Warmth would be good. I personally don't like the others though. I find it too boring keeping track of it.
