A Vigilant of Stendarr RP Question

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:32 am

As stated above, a question about RPing a Vigilant.

Should I concern myself with busting Brigands or am I merely on a hunt for the unholy?

Yeah, I understand the concept of playing how I want to play: That's exactly why I'm asking the question.

Is it worth dragging every Brigand I see in to the light..?

I don't think so. You should probably stick to Vampire lairs, Necromancers, and Daedra worshippers (Forsworn most likely).

I've seen Vigilant NPCs fighting bandits, if that helps.

What I'm interested in is if you'll help that Vigilant NPC you meet in Markarth. Surely one brother can't say no to another when he asks for help.

My poor brother, Tyranus... I "disposed" of that rusty mace... Hopefully it rots to pieces in the Sea of Ghosts.

Obviously you have to defend yourself against whomever or whatever attacks you, but they seem to hunt Daedra, vampires, and werewolves. All those they consider abominations.

I'm more concerned with my fellow Boethiahan on that quest. And to think, the Temple of Stendarr is considered to be allied with Boethiah. :ermm:

I'm also RP'ing a Vigilant, and in addition to hunting out & destroying necromancers, vampires etc, I also take out bandits & Forsworn.

Given the history, I'm not too sure about the Forsworn - however as they normally attack me on sight I don't have much choice in the matter!

I also extend my definition of "evil" to include the Thalmor - given what I know about them & their intentions I don't have a problem clearing the land of them whenever & wherever I find them.

If you have a PC, there's a mod called Alternative Start that will let you start as a Vigilant, in their hall. You are friendly with them, and have gear similar to them (which kinda svcks, btw).

Well for RP reasons you really wouldn't be able to do the DB quests, and most of the deadra quests since they are evil. Not really even sure about companion quests... how would you justify that one...

They attack you when you have high enough bounty, so in Skyrim reality, you could still take out who ever you considered to be breaking the law as well.

I've wanted to RP a Vigilant for awhile, but I'm waiting until the DLC in the *hopes* that there will be a full-on Vigilant questline. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, the difficult thing about being a Vigilant right now is that there aren't a lot of quests to support it. You can visit Vigilant locations, and help the random Vigilants you find on the roads and in the wilderness, of course. And I would help the Vigilant in Markarth, too.

Beyond that, I'd try to focus on the three threats mentioned by the Vigilants: Daedra, vampires, and werewolves. Sadly there are no werewolves you can hunt down in vanilla Skyrim, *but*
Spoiler
you could always destroy the Dark Brotherhood. There's an NPC werewolf there (and a vampire, but she won't be there when you bust in). Justification for destroying the DB is simple: You look up Aventus Aretino with the intention of talking him out of contacting the DB. You then go to Riften, discover that Grelod is really a total witch, and kill her to save the children. Then kill Astrid and proceed to destroy their nest. Very righteous, I'd think - and very much in-line with the Vigilants' "at all costs" morality.

Vampires are a little harder to find unless you know where to look. I've only run across a handful of vampire lairs. But they are out there.

Last, there's Daedra. Unfortunately, in Skyrim you can't just stumble across some dremora or atronachs. However, several of the Daedric quests give you the opportunity to actually betray the Daedric prince in question.

Some good Daedric quests for a Vigilant would be Vaermina, Azura, Hircine (though here you'd have to choose between the greater of two evils), Namira ... well I haven't done them all, but I'm sure there are others that would fit. Just approach the Daedric quests with the idea that your goal is to root out the Daedra or Daedra-worshippers, and anything you have to do along the way is part of the burden you must bear as a Vigilant. You can always back out of a quest and refuse to continue.

If that doesn't keep you busy enough, I would also include witches/necromancers as a target.

So I think there's enough for a Vigilant without trying to bring Bandits to justice too.

Well, crime is not holy, but crime is committed by mortals...mortals can be redeemed. They can give up evil, and live a holy life.

But daedra can't be redeemed. And don't want to be "redeemed". Not many daedra to go after though. I would expand unreedemable evil to mean Forsworn (they consort with Hagraven) and necromancers.

However, I wouldn't leave Bandits alone, if/when they attack. They're trying to prevent you from teaching others the mercy of stendarr, so kill them (heh). It's tortured logic, but hardly the first time. Spanish Inquisition and other examples. Just make sure to give them their last rites, and appeal to Stendarr to show his mercy in the afterlife.

Take their money to support your missionary work to spead Stendarr's Mercy to all :) Espcially those who don't want it. They need it the most. Logic of the Inquisition.
