Red item bug?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:37 pm

Getting ready to start a thief and I was wondering how the mechanics works on items appearing red in your inventory.

I recall an earlier character I had stole a Steel ingot from Alvor early on in the game. From that point on in the game the Steel ingots appeared red, even after I used those up smithing and smelted many of my own. I didn't bother checking but I assume this meant that I could only sell Steel ingots to fences. Not a problem since I never sold Steel anyway.

But now that I am going to play a thief I may have many items listed as stolen. What I don't want is to steal one gold ring and then not ever be able to sell a gold ring again throughout the entire game (except to fences). Is this how it works though?

Would also appreciate any suggestions and things to avoid playing a thieving type.

Thanks.

As far as I know, that's how it works. I wouldn't call it a bug because it's intended to be in the game. I'd call it more of a minor nuisance. Also, if you're playing a thief, you're going to be in the Ratway on a frequent basis anyway and Tonelia always has around 1K in gold to buy stuff from you, so it's really a non-issue.

My current characters are not into Larceny. Yet. However, one stole a Flute by accident, but other flutes did not get marked as stolen. So, this may have just been a glitch with that Ingot.

Also, as you may know, putting items in a container you don't own can transfer ownership and set the Stolen Flag when you take it back out of the container.

I have a problem now cause I put a bunch of things in containers and got them flagged red. Some of them are things I want to keep and I am afraid if I carry them around with me they will get confiscated. Is it right that you can reset the stolen flag by having them confiscated by the guards, and then steal them back from the evidence locker? For roleplay reasons I don't want to join the thieves guild.

Wow I thought that was an old MW bug. That is still here? Dang.

As much as I hate the Thieves guild, and the Nightingale thing, and the never really being their leader, and them being nothing by bullies, and being actually led by Ms B-B, so on ... this character may join them, though I swore I would never do it again.

Man I hope there is a DLC that lets you actually 'clean up' the thieves guild.
