Hey guys...

A couple weeks ago PC copies of Oblivion and Skyrim fell into my lap for less then ten dollars at a local thrift store. I also own the pc copy of morrowind which I have not played yet. For some reason I decided to just play my first real RPG with Oblivion. There is no real reason why I did this. (choosing oblivion)

Anyways, my PC is somewhat lacking... Although I can run Obvlivion on high settings which makes me sure morrowind will also have no trouble running. Skyrim, well, Im not sure my PC is up to snuff.. Actually, I know its not. I have high hopes for skyrim and I dont want to deprive myself of a great experience due to my PC.

AMD X2 @ 2.0
7GB DDR2 Ram
Nvidia gt430 1gb DDR3 onboard

I know this is in sufficient. My question is this. I also own a 360 which I kinda feel like I wasted my money on because it has spent most of its life doing nothing. I recently saw a new copy of skyrim on sale for the 360 for 40 bucks. Is there much of a difference between the PC version versus the 360 version? I am really new to the RPG world. I have played fallout 3 and NV which has led me to elderscrolls. FPS games just have seemed to become a hateful stressful type gaming... Im tired of listening to people scream and cry so I now enjoy the solitude that RPG's offer me. My biggest flaw with them is the magic'n stuff.. I would rather have a gun, but this magic is growing on me. :)

So, will I still have the same amount of fun with the 360 version ?? Thanks guys. :)

Mods. Mods. Mods. PC has mods, Box doesn't.

You can still have fun, but changing features you don't like on the fly with the Workshop is great.

Have you tried using Skyrim yet ??? --- reason I ask is it is a STEAM game and the product Key is tied to the first person's account and once used it can not be used again so if someone already used the product key you just bought a $10 coaster !! (This is the reason that developers use Steam in order to avoid the secondary market and make more $ off of the game sales since the key can only be used again if the original owner gives you their Steam account also )

Oblivion should be fine since it just uses a Disc check so can be reused and reinstalled to a new system but Skyrim will not since it is tied to Steam ! (so you actually paid $20 for Oblivion which is more than it is selling for currently in many locations !)

You do make a great point about the mods. I have yet to ever use a mod to see them in their glory, but it will happen. I know this is not the oblivion forums, but I hate, HATE , HATE lock picking... Is there a way to errr uhmm remove this annoyance? Also, conversation wheel FTL. HAHA!

My biggest issue is im at a cross roads with my PC. I am at a point where I cannot really upgrade it much further. I also have a funky Socket type and AMD only made a limited amount of CPU's to fit it. I *think* the highest I could go is 2.4ghz... Then again, I should perhaps research the cpu thing a little further. My biggest problem is cost. I was hoping to get another 6 months out of this rig and then look into building a proper pc. This computer, and I S*** you not was litterally from parts found in the trash. I am amazed at how far it has taken me, and the amazing games it has graciously allow me to play. The only part I bought for it was the GPU and some case fans.

This is why I am against Steam. Once a game is purchased you should be allow to sell it or give it to whomever you want. This is a dirty tactic.

Why? The company loses profits from not using Steam. It's not dirty, it's logical and smart.

If I buy something, I expect to be able to do what I want with it. Sell it, lend it, give it to a friend/relative, keep it in mothballs and use it in 50 years(!). Not possible with a Steam game.

Imagine if a car company suddenly decided that if you want to do any of the above with a car you own it would turn into a coaster instead of a car..........

;)

In order to make money, you have to screw your customers

@OP:
I don't know about GT430, but my rig is this:
Core2Duo E4600 @2.4 GHz
9800GT 512MB
2GB RAM

and Skyrim works just fine. I haven't really tested Skyrim with latest patch at 2.4 GHz per se, because I used to OC it to 2.75 GHz (some stability problem was observed this past few days). With 2.75GHz and patch 1.4.21 I get 40fps all around, dropping only as high as 28~35 at flocked cities

^This --- In reality it seems that Skyrim actually runs better on some older systems than Oblivion does once you play around with the settings to get it optimized which can take awhile.
