Skyrim for PC questions

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:19 pm

Ok i've been a console gammer for my whole gaming career. I have a... new computer, it's a home computer, no gaming computer by any means, and i've been drooling over skyrim for pc for a while now. I have it on ps3 but it lacks... so if i want to get the best experience what would be the minimum that i would need? as far as i can tell i have every thing except a good video card.

So what would be a good realistic video card be

and would it be worth it to even get skyrim on PC when i have it for PS3?

What is your current hardware like?

Current graphics card/IGP, CPU, amount of RAM. Case, and power supply? What is your budget.

You almost definitely need a new power supply too.

I'd wait until Steam has it's summer sale and that would let the GPU market settle a bit as it is in transition between hardware generations.

There is a world of difference between console and pc simply because of the thousands of mods that are available for the pc version. You do need a decent pc if you are planning on using a lot of mods though because some are fps intensive. When you can afford to do it I would most definetly recommend the pc version though.

An old Radeon 5770 can play this game super smooth in 1080p with high settings and 4xAA / 4-8xAF. So anything above that will do you justice. And to answer your other question, yes it's worth it for pc. It's a totally different league with mods, better controls, better performance, better graphics etc.

Download this: http://www.piriform.com/speccy

(don't worry it isnt' a virus and it is free)

Take a picture of what it says, and/or just type it out and post it here

You can't just get a video card upgrade because it depends on things like how old your motherboard is, how good your PSU is, etc.

Usually, not all the time, but usually, it's pretty much impossible to upgrade a "home computer" into a gaming one, because all the parts inside were picked on the expectation that you would never do anything with it but home computing, like web browsing or office. Video cards require good powersupplies, and require motherboards that support the slots that go into them, and require a good enough processor for you to even see any positive effects of a good video card.

The thing is, it's not like gaming PC parts/motherboards/CPU's are nessicarily "expensive" or " exclusive", because they aren't (as long as you aren't wanting to do something super high end) - it's just that your average home computer prebuilt cuts A LOT of corners to make it cheaper to produce/sell. And these corners are okay to cut, because most people who get home computers don't really need those corners to do a good job at home computing.
