Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:47 am

My dad, daddy, pa (whatever ya call your father) is 1/4 Cherokee an his dad, my papaw is 1/2 Cherokee. I reckon from bein round em all the time I thought makin a Cherokee Warrior would be pretty dern cool.
So heres what i got so far
Race: Imperial
Skin Tone: Red (hence the word "redman" used in the ol days of cowboys an whatnot)
Body Muscularity: 50% thin, 50% muscle
Complexion: Perfect (considering hes a young warrior and shouldnt have wrinkles or nothin)
Dirt: None
War Paint: Black Hand Print (I googled it its actually an ancient indian war paint that iriquoi an cherokees used)
Nose: Kinda bird like ( I dunno if ya ever seen a picture of an ol indian chief but they all seem to have "bird beaks")
Brows: Kinda hairy an low (to make em look kinda mad)
Hair: Black Mohawk (to show that hes a a warrior)
Facial Hair: None (jus cos)
Name: Bali (Though Bali, Balin an Balik are all iriquoi/cherokee names meaning "Warrior" cos iriquoi an cherokees speak the same language)
Skills: One handed (Two woodcutters axes cos it looks kinda tomohawkish) Ligh Armor (fur armor an shoes no helmet or bracers) Archery (long bow cos it looks like somethin indians would use) an Sneak/Stealth (so I can hunt)
What do yall think so far?

Pretty cool, but for aesthetic purposes I think it'd be cooler if you wielded a dagger and were an expert sneaker. If I recall correctly the Cherokee were/are guerilla warriors and when alone they'd use the land and knowledge of it as their most powerful weapon.

As a side note, when I get into the creation kit I am totally going to make a tomahawk. So cool! Too bad I won't be able to throw it.

Some Native Americans were skilled in the bow, so add that to your skill set. Also, Alchemy and possibly Illusion Spells would bring in some of the Shaman's influences.

TBH, the one handed Axes or even Maces are better suited as an anolog to a Tomahawk than a Woodcutters Axe which I think is Two Handed.

I think imperial isn't a good choice. Redguard would be a much better match, particularly the Alik'r desert nomads. My previous character was a redguard archer who used nothing but a long bow, hide armor, and iron arrows. I didn't fashion him after an american indian but he was a tribal so there were lots of similarities.

Seems like it will be a solid build. How are you going to rp this character, though? Like, who are his people, where is he from, etc?

Redguard axe wielder/ sneaky type sounds like the closest to me. And be sure to post photos so we can admire.

I would go with an Argonian. They are probably the most native American influenced race.

Hence the names like Dances-With-Wolves. Look at some of the Bethesda sketched artwork for Argonians and that also looks native American. I think the feathers coming out of their heads is also related to this.

I certainly wouldn't go with a redguard. I think they are blatantly an African / Arabian Sahara influenced race. Native Americans have absolutely no racial similarity with such people.

I am Northern European with some Indian (as in the country India) blood in me so for Oblivion I made an Indian looking Nord. He was tall with raven hair, a slight tan and had green eyes. (Northern Indians originate from the steppes of Russia way back in history as do Northern Europeans - both descend from Indo-Europeans people such as Scythians / Saka and their dna confirms this = R1a Y DNA hg - so it made sense to be a Nord).

Like what you've got so far. Even though you're doing an Imperial because they resemble more to Natives, I would've done a Nord.Fits in with the whole Homeland is being threatened by foreign invaders scenario (Empire and Thalmor). You could still make him look American.

Anyway, yeah, your skills are pretty good for this character.

One-Handed, Light Armor, Smithing, Sneak, Archery, Alchemy.

If you want to roleplay, make it so that you only wear what you've killed out in nature.

I recommend the forsworn axe.

This, and a forsworn bow or a longbow

I think Imperials look more like Native Americans than Redguards, redguards' skin is too dark compared to the reddish brown skin of indians

Native Americans such as the Cherokee, prior to inter marriage with Europeans were genetically related to the Oriental races of East Asian. High Cheek bones, slanted eyes (epicanthic fold), slight yellow pigment to skin.

Something still recognisable to a large extent with the Inuit people of the far North of the Americas.

Unlike European and African races who have the lower cheek bone etc.

Considering this, then you could go with an Elven race such as the Dunmer, Bosmer or Altmer as they have the similar higher cheek bone and yellow skin pigment etc of the East Asian races. The Dunmer have the lore of central Asian Turkic, Mongol and Chinese type people which has many parallels with Native Americans - Shamans etc.

Wow.... ummm... yeah, so.... I'm having a tough time replying to this. Not sure whether to actually be offended or not

Taianonni is my Mohawk name. It means "His tracks are made." (Ironically, I did make an Argonian with that name hyphenated) My mother is full blooded Mohawk... Our tribe is part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, people of the longhouse, six nations, or Iroquois as we were named by the Europeans. We have always been from Upstate NY and our only real interaction with the Cherokee was when we adopted some war refugees into our Confederacy, making the Tuscarora tribe and the sixth nation. I speak some Mohawk and a little Onondaga, and each nation has a slightly different dialect. Last I knew, the Haudenosaunee did not share the same language as the Cherokee nations.

In terms of "red skin" and a "hooked bird nose" its something I nor anyone in my family has. I get very deep tan in the summer, but it would also depend greatly on the tribe and overall genes.
