How to fix patch 1.5's CTD issue?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:22 am

I have many characters at present, for different reasons / purposes / moods. Almost all use some mods, some use many. While I haven't tested all my characters, those that I have tested all seem to have CTD issues, usually when entering a house, ever since the 1.5 patch.

From what I've read, I suspect that it is the Dovahkiin Hideout that is causing my CTD issues, although it could be any of the other myriads of mods that I use. Finger-pointing is not the issue, how-to-fix-the-problem is the issue. So, short of throwing everything away, or rolling back to an unpatched game, (is the latter even possible?) how do I address this issue? Is Bethesda going to address this issue?

Please, don't let it be the 'throw everything away and start over' answer...

Wouldn't moving out of the Dovahkiin Hideout and disabling the mod fix the issue? :tes:

Oh - YES! Such an EASY answer! WHY didn't I think of that! Just disable ALL suspect mods, one at a time, irrespective of how deeply woven in to whatever character uses them for whatever reason...

Or, why don't I just delete all of my existing characters with issues and start them all over?

One normally doesn't fix a flat tire by blowing up the vehicle, although that WILL work...

Stop using mods IS a useful answer. It is not the job of Beth to make their game work with mods; it is the job of mod-makers to ensure that their stuff works with Beth. At the very least, if you think one mod is the problem, turn it off. If that works, let the mod-maker know his/her mod may have an issue. If it doesn't work, turn off all the mods and see if it works. If it works now, it's nothing to do with Beth and it's now your job to establish which mod is causing the problem. I had exactly this a week ago, when one mod I had caused the chargen to malfunction: halfway down the track, the two horses pulling the carts veer left into hill and get stuck. The cut-scene never advanced beyond that. Did I cry like a little girl? No, I just started unplugging mods until I found the one that caused the problem.

Yeah, when a new patch is released, mods may no longer be compatible with the game. The mod creator will need to release an updated version.

(Sigh) Unfortunately I think that you are correct. Even though Bethesda had fair warning that their patch WAS going to break games running certain mods, (the issue was reported on rather extensively under beta testing...) and even though their is no easy way to back out of a released patch, Bethesda dropped this patch onto the community anyway. So I guess it is now up to us to 'deal with it'.

Perhaps next game that Bethesda makes, they should make for console users only. Console users are much less of a problem, and Bethesda doesn't even have to release modding tools. They get ~80% of their total sales anyway, but at much less cost when it comes to after-release support.

Drop the attitude.

I'll drop my attitude only after I have no reason to hold onto it. And you are not helping.

i get a CTD from breezehome, with mods and without mods...
so since that is the only reason of the only one CTD i ever had... now i moved to markarth LOL
if you have the same problem you could try to do the same, i mean changing home. i think you won't get CTDs anymore (but you have to say BYE BYE to breezehome)...
or maybe you could try to check your mod load order...try to load dovakiin hideout almost at the end of your mod list
