Is it too late to be a mage?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:34 pm

I am level 47, warrior type guy.
Heavy armor: 100
Lock picking: 100
One handed: 100
Archery: 75

But I made a new game to see what's being a Mage like, it's really fun. But I don't want to play every single missions I have done all over again (MQ, civil war etc... So is it too late to be a Mage?

No, many people's mages have to resort to weapons anyway... you'll fit right in.

depends on what kind of mage you want to be. You want to be an armor wearing mage who uses bound weapons, no problem.

Want to be a "pure" mage with no armor or weapons and only use magic for every aspect except picking locks. Probably too late, imo, but you can try it and prove me wrong.

But will it be hard for me as I have to have perks but it takes a while to level up at levels that high...

Nope, that's the beauty of Skyrim - it's never too late to learn. Unlike its predecessors, Skyrim allows you to pick up a new skill at any time without being penalized (I.e. the new skill won't level you up and it's at an extremely low level to begin with). Much more realistic, in my opinion.

Cast away, my friend. Let that magicka flow!

What you don't want to do is waste perks on mana costs, use enchantments for that and choose actual skill bonuses.

I will give it a try. I have enough money to buy a lot of magika potions, but my magika is only 180 but my stamina and health are about 310. Will that be a problem?

It's never too late for nothing even in real life; imagine on a simple game

However,no one forces you to play all the Mq and other quests -eventually you can simply do the college quests with the new character.

With more powerful spells, yes. Invest in the perks which lower the magicka costs, and try to loot items with reductions to the amount of magicka needed to cast a spell in a particular school. Level up your magicka whenever possible. It'll be a challenge, but if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy it. I doubled the lifespan of my archer by making her a Mage when she was at quite a high level.

You'll get more from the mage experience by starting again at level 1 in my opinion.

You may find it hard at first to use destruction magic at such a high level, but the items you have listed will help.

Because I have all dragon priest masks, which one is more useful?

Nahkriin:
+50 magicka, and destruction and restoration spells cast 20% less.

OR

Morokei:
Magicka regenerates 100% faster.

Think of what magic school you are using, In my opinion Nahkriin is the better of the two, and did you mention that you have the arch mages robes on as well?

Keep in mind that Nahkriin is heavy armor so strictly speaking it breaks the pure mage "glass cannon" a little bit. Still it's a good mask though ;)

Magicka regenerates 100% faster.

Keep in mind this is not 100% in combat. It's 33% in combat. When you need it the most.

So I agree, Nahkriin is probably the better option seeing your level is high (Bad ass foes) and your Destruction skill low. (It's like flicking snot at those bad ass foes, pretty much.)

Good luck.

(I wouldn't do it, with Destruction in the state it's in.........if your on PC, you may want to look into the "Balanced Magic" mod or some other mod that tries to fix it.)
