Right soul into right sized soulgem?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:32 pm

I know, this is stupid newbie question, but I have to ask (documentation is, how I say it, short of information)...

I know that I don't need lot of filled soulgems and I can buy those also from stores, but I like to collect souls by my self.

I have a weapon with soul capture and I have all size of empty soulgems. Soon I have all size soulgems filled (mostly) with lowest level souls (petty). Only my only black soulgem is filled with grand soul. How you capture right size souls into right sized soulgems or do you just buy when needed? Can you merge same/different sized empty/filled soulgems?

Noticed also that when recharging your weapon it's not told what size of soul is inside soulgem, only what size a soulgem itself is.

I didn't found any of these informations from wiki.

All advices/hints/solutions/strategies are welcome.

Adv. thanks

Souls automatically go into the smallest empty gem in your inventory which will hold them (or Azura's Star if you have it and it's empty). If none is big enough to hold them, they "get away". So if you have only big gems and are fighting small creatures, don't use your soul-capturing weapon. My character caries two greatswords because of this (one daedtric, with soul capture, and one ebony, with no enchants; the damage difference isn't enough to matter, but the visual difference is useful).

You can empty out a soul gem you accidentally trapped a sub-capacity soul in by dropping it from inventory, then picking it up off the ground. Its best to do this in a mostly empty room or a fairly open area away from any slopes or cliffs...

Well that's news to me. Has that worked for a while or is it new as of skyrim?
