I've had Whiterun gaurds follow me into my house before after only passing by them. I once was running away from a large cat in Winterhold (low health, no more potions) and thought I'd duck into the inn to seek refuge from it while I healed a bit. It followed me inside and killed me then and there.

It tends to happen, if you enter through the doorway in the middle of a conversation. I guess they need to see that they are being heard to the end.

This happened to me just today actually I was about to go into breezhome and the little girl was talking to me. I was surprised when I saw her inside the house with me. I thought she would be stuck in the house but she was able to leave.
