Over-Encumbered

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:28 am

Is it just me.. or can you NOT ride a Carriage when your OE? PLEASE tell me this is not so..

I just made a VERY lengthy travel to Markarth (closest city to me) just to get on the Carriage to leave. Now for some reason my dude just wants to sit in the back, and the carriage will not leave.

Anyone?

(EDIT: my bad meant to post this in hints/spoilers, move it if you feel it's necessary)

You cannot ride a carriage while over-encumbered. I tried to transfer all my items I had collected into my new home using the carriage but it wouldn't travel while I was over-encumbered. I just sat in the back of the carriage.

That's FANTASTIC info..! ^.^

Ugh... I eventually got into Markarth itself and sold a bunch of crap (some I didn't even want to) and found a Carrying Cap. potion which let me FT to Windhelm. I'm all good now.. but that's redonkulous..

They realllly don't want you FTing while OE huh? Man...

And whomever thought of the walking speed should be shot...

You do realize you could've bought a horse and you could've FT'd, right?

Dude, regarding the walking speed thing, there has to be some kind of penalty for being over-encumbered. Can you imagine these forums if there wasn't?

Get a follower, you will never have to worry again. Or a horse but follower is awesome. First they can carry all kinds of weight and second they can pick master locks, kill, steal and if you give them a torch they will light up dark areas for you freeing up a hand(if you even use torches).

No I agree with this and all because in Oblivion you couldn't even move at all. BUT, couldn't they just make the walking speed a LITTLE faster? I swear you could move faster in Fallout 3?

Reason I'm saying this? Is because while walking (trying to get to Markarth) I had to cross a river.. and it had one HELLUVA current and I could barely even make it over to the other side.

METALPUNKS - Never knew that about Master Locks.. that's intriguing...

Followers carry capacity is limited as well.

And I think - not completely sure - that if they use equipment you gave them, it's counted against their weight limit, so they can carry less. Sure seems Lydia carried fewer of my buurrdenss after I gave her upgraded gear.

Why horses don't have saddle bags is beyond me...

And why the cart won't go when you are over-encumbered is beyond stupid design...

Yeah in Oblivion it was so stupid... "Here I am, good to go, sprinting along, but OH NO! I picked up an apple and now I'm frozen in place from the crushing weight!"

Ah the Oblivion days, not being able to move :D ! To be honest, the wraiths that used to use burden were the worst

At times like that, I'm so glad Arinbjorn has a magical, weightless Bag of Holding which can hold infinite weight in itself, an artifact passed down from his family for generations...

Being him (as well as his family) some "Alteration/Mysticism freaks", it also makes sense, roleplaying-wise.

Why'd you have to remind me of them..? Sigh..

I almost forgot about stuff like Burden, Dispel, etc.

Followers carry capacity is limited as well.

If there are items on the ground you can tell your followers to pick them up and they will do it regardless of how much they are carrying.

confirmed and applauded, just put everything in a chest in a dungeon, tell him/her to pick it up.

About picking locks, it depends on lvl and follower IME, Derketheesus (sp?) for example can pick locks up to apprentice, but not more.

For RP sake, while you are smithing something, tell your follower to use another working station, it's 'immersive' to see :D

I find it funny that I can barely walk when I'm over-encumbered, but I can heave my heavy rear up onto a horse. I'm not complaining. I'm glad we can fast travel that way.
