Archery system improvement?

Am I the only one here who preferred the aiming system in Oblivion?

Obviously, when you try to make a game accessible to the MOST people, you reduce the difficulty of some aspects... But I find that horribly wrong to not have to take distance into account when shooting someone, like we had to in Oblivion.

I've also thought that it would be really useful to add the "melee" perk in the archery system... Like improving the damage you do when "left-triggering" an opponent with a bow, it should be improveable in order to make a "Melee Ranger" kind of character.

Any thoughts on the Archery system in Skyrim?

You do have to take distance into account, just because it's a different arc doesn't mean there isn't an arc. Although I never played oblivion so I never had to change

I MUCH prefer Skyrim's archery. For me, Oblivion's system feels a bit clunky or awkward or something, whereas in Skyrim I simply aim a little higher for a further distance.

Archery in Oblivion was a nuiscance at best. As someone who's been pretty damn critical of Skyrim's shortcomings thus far, Archery is not among them. IMO that is one of the things that Bethesda actually did right.

Bows have a longer range in skyrim then in Oblivion, I have no idea what makes you think you don't have to take distance into account.

Well, in Oblivion, you actually had to do it the REAL way. Like aiming real above the enemy you were going to shoot, in order for the arrow to go far enough. In Skyrim, I didn't notice this kind of realism.

Well in Oblivion, you also lacked depth perception to do this properly. You also didn't have to account for wind speed and direction and compensate for those variables when you aimed, so I don't think you can call it "the REAL way."

Yes, but in Skyrim you don't even have to take into account the distance, just shoot. Of course, each bow has some maximum range. In Oblivion, even with a more difficult archery system, I always hit my goal, and most of the time on the first try.

I have to take diastase into account, it depends on how far your shooting- up close I have to aim low, and at distance high. I always aim for the head though

I prefer the Oblivion way, too. I'm still addicted to archery in Skyrim, but I think the old way was more fun.

Skyrim's Archery is a 1000 times better then Oblivion's archery. I'm probably the worst archer out of everybody on this site in Oblivion, I can't use the bow for crap in that game. Skyrim is a different story, the bow is much better and isn't a pain in the butt to use like it was in Oblivion. My only gripes with Archery in Skyrim is that you can't cut the arrows off the corpse with a dagger, now that would've been a cool gameplay addition and you can't make arrows with Smithing.

There's a simple INI tweak that makes it more realistic. That, and turning off the crosshair has been a lot of fun for the last 3 months ...

What I get confused about is the enemy that shoots me. I was running and this Bandit was miles away and was shooting arrows dead straight at me. It looks as if they're shooting a crossbow or gun. It is crazy how far they can shoot from.
