lost items in your house

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:31 pm

so im a lvl 40 redguard, and finally decided to buy a home since i got married. now i didnt play oblivion but played morrowind for more hours then i can remember.

i bought breezehome in whiterun, fully decked it out with all improvements and my wife and lydia stay there.

now in morrowind once you owned a place (ie. telvanni stronghold) you could place things where ever you want and they wont be disturbed. so i thought the same applied to skyrim. so i place 3 dragon priest masks on the dresser to the right as you go up the stairs. that was at lvl 30ish. i have come back to store some artifacts and they seem to be gone, i checked everywhere, in the chest the dresser and every square inch of the home and cant find them.

so my question is does the house reset??? and have i lost these items forever??? also if i have lost them forever, i assume i cannot complete the quest where you bring all 8 masks to unlock the final one???

i also placed the mask of ???? ville (a daedric artifact) which is gone as well. can i still complete the collect 15 daedric artfacts achievement if i dont currently own the item?????

(im on the 360 so no CC for me)

That's strange. I bought the breezhome house early on, probably around L12 or so. I have hundreds if not thousands of items inside the various dressers, cabinets, and chest in the house and so far have always found anything that I knew should be there. Same goes for anything placed in the house itself (in the house, but not in a container).

People living in the house can sometimes knock stuff off, also, you need to drop an item on the floor, exit the house, re-enter, then finally place it for it to stick. As for the achievement, yes you can still get it even if you lose/sell one, it counts if you have been awarded it, not if you still have it. A final note, the Skeleton Key currently doesn't apply to the achievement, for whatever reason.

Also companions and your wife can often pick things up, check their inventory to see if they have them.

That's a known glitch, along with weapon stands.

I believe I read on the uesp wiki, that if your spouse is a merchant, they occasionally pick up your items. You can buy them back at full price. I apologize if this is incorrect.

There's a weird effect where items will be bumped away from where you left them when you re-enter the house. This happens whether anyone (like a spouse or housecarl) is in the house or not. The other bummer about houses is that items sometimes clip through the floor and disappear forever.
