Stealth archer build help!

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:43 pm

Hi all hope you all are well. Anyway i started a new game build recently a stealth/archer with alchemy support ( wood elf ) but i have problems i find that the harder enemies like dragons/boss characters always kick my butt i am very good at taking out normal enemies. i always get my ass handed to me when it comes to dragons or if i am detected and the enemies closes the gap i can not fire my bow fast enough. so i guess i am asking do you guys have any good builds for this type of character that does not have that sever weakness, thanks ( based my archer build off of the strategy guide)

Have you thought about using Illusion, muffle is a powerful spell effect and Invisiblity can be useful if you want to get away long enough for the enemy to stop searching for you.

Once you get the archery perks and a decent bow you should not have thet big a problem.
Dragon breath attacks are always going to hurt but they can be minimized by drinking resist whatever element they breathe, fire or frost, potions.
Also dragons can be poisoned but they can't be paralyzed so save those for other creatures.

You can use the bow to bash your enemy attacks to stagger them, this can allow you to get run and get some dsitance to start fireing again.

But mostly once you get your sneak and archery skills up and perked you won't have any problem getting one hit kills.
Invisibility potions can also be used when needed since you are already an alchemist.

And keep a sword/dagger for when they get in too close. Different bows have different draw speeds as well, I find elven to be the all around bow that's not only got a good distance shoot but it also seems to draw the fastest. Utilize your environment to it's fullest as well, I tend to plan my attack so as to keep the high ground, potions are another good back up, deathbell and salt pile create a slow poison along with large antlers and river betty, I also like to make poisions with multiple effects like a damage health/slow poison wich you need deathbell, jarrin root, human flesh/heart. But my fav. would be the ravage health, if you are good enough at alchemy you can make a poison that's taking a good chunk of health before they get any where close to you, for that poison you will need cyrodillic spade tail, eye of sabercat, giant lichan, jazbay graqes, silversided pearch, skeever tail.
If you combine stealth with terrain and poisons you can be quite unstopable even more so when you throw enchantments on top of all that like fortify sneak, archery etc...etc... but I would include one-handed just for added precaution if a NPC get in too close.

Of all my characters the stealthy alchemist archer is the most powerful hands down, I had to up the difficulty in the early 30s because too many enemies were one-shotted . I don't even use magic or shouts. You need to use sneak and poison for the bosses and hit&run still works, I don't know why they said backpedalling is not an option any longer because it works great especially with slowing poison. Dragons are hard on lower levels but you can always use a companion to distract them, and wear (or have with you in the inventory and switch when needed) some frost/fire protection at least on ring and neck.

I forgot all about keeping a buddy with you at the start, it's pretty much mandatory at lower levels to have a tank with you to distract and to dispatch any who get in too close, until you reach like level 20-30 then you can pretty much school all cept dragons and high level bosses, but poisons work wounders along with resist fire/cold/magic potions.
