Everyone in Skyrim is so mean...

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:26 pm

I'm just trying to make an honest living as an adventurer, and people don't seem to tolerate me for it. I've been called an idiot from Markarth to Winterhold, I've been abused by guards, I've been yelled at by the greatest smith in Skyrim for asking a simple question, I've tried to be honorable to the Companions and been treated like dirt for it, I've had Altmer mock my clothes in broad daylight in Solitude, even the kids have it in for me.

What gives? I'm only trying to help. Maybe they're not having enough sleep, or it's the war that's getting to them, but still, insulting random pedestrians doesn't seem like very good behaviour.

*Sigh* People in Skyrim are so mean.

Well, Altmer think they're better than everybody, and kids are jerks anyway so that takes care of those two. And there seem to be an unusual number of people with knee injuries. That could make anybody cranky. ;)

Life in Skyrim's probably short and rough, even without the war and dragons and such. People probably don't have the patience for sitting down for a cup of tea with every random milk-drinker who wants to show off his fancy dragon armor. :D

I can see why some of the advlts are rude, but the kids too? It's like they breed the hatred out there...

It's a very dreary and hard time, strangers ain't going to give you gift baskets on the street. Remember that most of these people either think they're too superior, or are just too stressed and frustrated.
In the time of crisis, war, and dragons it's kind of hard to stay like, for example, Shahvee.

I don't know where you've gotten that from OP. Wherever I roam in Skyrim some peasant or inhabitant always runs towards me asking for help!

I'm just a stranger! How can so many people trust me?

Those brother's in Falkreath "oh they let provincials like you wander around" and "steal any thing from my shop there will be trouble" this was having a conversation with him in the inn. I wish there was a dialogue option to tell him to ram his shop up his [censored].

They live in the dark ages. No toilets, no running water. To stay warm you need to chop a tree first. To eat you need to hunt all day and do backbreaking work on the field. Then there's the constant threat of war. Disease abound. A general lack of hygiene. Bandits and marauders around every corner.

Actually, i'm surprised anyone is talking to me at all ...

I like the NPCs being mean. Most other games NPC's answer the hero's very blunt questions with smiles and helpfulness. Even if you ask the question twice.

Maybe you should raise your personality attribute. Oh wait, you can't.
