Downgrade to 1.4?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:43 am

So, this might seem a little strange, but is there any way for me to downgrade my game to 1.4? The 1.5 update has caused a serious problem with my game and I have contacted bethesda about it. They gave me some useless advice and a link to a topic I cant view, so I think the only way to ever play my $60 game again is to downgrade to 1.4.
If I can downgrade, I also have a few questions.
Will my saves be deleted or not usable?(I dont really care)
Can I still get mods or will they only work on 1.5?

Oh yeah, Im on a windows 7 laptop, I am running skyrim and getting mods for it through steam, and I am really fed up with Bethesda tech support. Now they wont even email me to tell me that I spent 60 bucks on something that I cant use.
Sorry for getting off topic and raging
Thanks,
Ryan

Is there some way to contact Bethesda and inform them of my displeasure? I feel the need to complain about how they arent helping me.
;)

Only if you have a copy of the executable of 1.4 version, perhaps other files too. Otherwise it is impossible, Steam will only have the latest update, that it will download immedialy after reinstall.

You're either stuck with completely unpatched V1.00, or patch 1.5.

Alright, Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll have to figure something else out.

That is not true for me because on the ps3 my game would freeze every time I went in water, so my game is pretty much broken. I did some method a moderator sent a link to, and now my game will not update to the latest patch, it is stuck at 1.05, do you know how to fix this.

I assume you went through all the usual procedures first before posting here?

Disable mods, verify game cache, delete ini files etc. ...

It seems that most people that are posting here about how 1.5 broke their Skyrim have mods that are incompatible with 1.5, which obviously isn't Bethesda's fault.

If your on PS3, make sure your signed in, and on your XMB go to Game > Game Data Utility > Skyrim update > delete. Then start up skyrim, download 1.5, and your water will be fixed and your patches up to date. And to the OP, I'm sure that there's a version of 1.4 floating around the internet somewhere that you could use.

I did that. and deleted the game data file for it because that is what the link said, but when I got on while signed in it only did the 1.05 patch and then the game started. I even turned my ps3 off and then started Skyrim again, but it still didn't update to 1.5

1.05 is 1.5. Changing it to 1.05 is just the way Sony does patch naming, because they expect some games *cough*call of duty*cough* to require a lot of patching.

No, because before earlier today I just updated to 1.5 patch and it said 1.5 so unless it just changed the numbering of it a few hours later I think I screwed myself.

Don't worry, as long as the patch has a 1 followed by a 5 and you have ranged kill cams and your underwater view is kinda fuzzy, you're up to date. Or if you have breezehome purchased and aren't married, you could wear an amulet of mara and see if lydia will marry you. If you can marry her, you're also up to date

And sorry that we sort of hi-jacked your thread OP, just trying to solve 1.5 woes.

I'll have to check on that because I didn't try my bow attacks, and I jumped in the water but I don't know if it looked different or not I didn't pay attention to the underwater visuals as I go underwater very rarely.

FYI I updated my ps3 version a few days ago and it, indeed, said 1.05. Don't worry, you got the right update.

Windows 7 allows you to roll back to earlier versions for files - right click on file and select previous version. Offcourse you'll have to have steam in offline mode as it will try to update it again.

I made a folder called "Skyrim Patches", inside that is folders for 1.4 1.5 and 1.5.1 [or whatever Beth called the hotfix]
Wish I had thought of keeping a copy of the update.bsa and all that jazz from the very beginning, but yeah, when using Steam, you quickly learn to use firewall blocking and constantly backing up your files. Just in case Steam has a spaz. Which, in my use, is often enough to bother with shutting it down as much as possible. Waste of CPU resources that bloat.

If it's allowed I can upload you all the necessary files to revert back to 1.4
Your saves will survive, even if they have been "tainted" by being saved in 1.5////.1
Saves are backwards compatible for me atleast. With no issues, that I encountered yet.
But Skyrim is good at making you think all is well before dropping the bomb on you.
