just got some turtle beach x12 headset, for skyrim

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:09 pm

sounds so much better, the music, the sound effect everything, i cant beleive i wasnt ever really interested in trying to get the best sound, obviously im not saying turtle beach x12 are the best, in fact there is headsets that go way up to 100's of pounds but this is my first experience with great sound, ive been missing out, i love how when you go past something if its on your left then it will sound louder from the left ear peice. im interested in getting the dss surround sound amplifier thingy, cost about 60 quid. also batman arkham city is anothe one that is great for sound, i was just using my cheap bargain tv, i think the reason headsets are so good is cuz they block the outside noise, so its just your ears and the sound, and with the sounds of skyrim mod, its pretty perfect, alot of you probably got like badass surround sound set ups and think, wow you only just noticed lol. but this headset is value for money really cuz it works on pc, 360 and ps3, though for 360 and ps3 you gotta get adapters that cost a couple quid each, surround sound must be amazing, lol i can hear a jingle when riding my horse, my character breathing heavily, things like that i never noticed

I just got the same pair about a month ago, and i didn't need to get adapters to use them on xbox.

But yea, much better. Watch out though, I used the [censored] out of mine & my heads been hurting. lol. I had to give them a break for about a week.

Headphones make it really obvious that the dragon audio spacial location is broken when they fly around.

I use the DSS surround sound do-dad and I love it. Before, with anolog sound when a sound was on one side it sounded like it was coming through just one earpiece, like it was right in your ear. With the DSS that has completely gone away. Now sounds off to the left or right sound like they're to the left or right but it's not all in one ear. I'm guessing that's the difference with digital sound. The volume knob is also handy if your headphones don't have a volume control.

Altough Skyrim somehow does not have all the wonderful nature sounds of Cyrodiils dense forests, it's still a great thing to have good headphones, no matter what kind of game or movie or whatever. A lot of people are using some cheap stuff and don't know what they're missing.

And since not a lof of people have noticed it, I doubt it will ever get fixed. The roaring sound is corretly placed in 3D space, but not updated as the Dragon moves. Same goes for werewolf sounds, while sprinting, I often hear myself roaring -way behind- me.

Congratulations for getting better sound. To me good sound is as important as good graphics.

I've Asus Xonar Essence STX high-end soundcard (cost about 200€) and Sennheiser HD-555 stereo headphones (cost over 100€). The soundcard turns the stereo headphones into surround ones with Dolby Headphone technology. In Skyrim I can hear everything that's happening around me and the exact direction. It fully immerses me in the gameworld. It's great to have both good sound quality and surround.

If you're on PC with mods you get nature sounds...Anyway you're correct, without good sounds you don't know what you're missing. The sound quality in Blu-ray movies for example is great.

I've the X-41 set, and it really adds to the atmosphere... mow they have an x-42 that is dual band.... That might be better for heavy wi-fi homes. Mine work fine though, no complaints.

got to say im glad to hear this, ive just ordered the dss 2 for 49.99, cheapest i could find, so like you say i know what you mean it does sound a little like its coming from 1 ear peice, but i thought it still sounded good, i mean i thought sound was still coming from both but that could just be me, im guessing though thats what surround sound does, also my head was hurting a bit cuz i was playing too loud, bass rite up, the bass on these things is amazing, seriously i went in markarth, the jarls place and they were literaly vibrating, but in a good way, not a my speakers are gonna pop and explode kinda way, and the bass wasnt even that high, should get my dss2 not tommorow but the next day hopefully, ordered from gamegears, they seem to have some great deals considering free postage

I use my 1973 Lafayette F-990 headphones for everything. http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki/index.php?title=Lafayette_F-990&redirect=no Sounds amazing. Playing Skyrim on TV speakers would be a waste. Gotta use headphones.

I noticed that too with my 5 year old Onkyo 5.1 surround sound system. I thought it was only me. The dragon roars come from my right speaker when it is clearly on my left and so on.

Headphones add a completely different level of immersion which i have yet to see equaled with speakers unless one were to own a house where they could crank it up to get all the details and thumping combat without worrying about disturbing the neighbors in a apartment dwelling setting.

I remembered the first time playing Quake in 1996 with my 18 year old Koss Pro-4AA and it felt like i was right there hearing the grenades bouncing on the castle floor and exploding. Unfortunately the connectors were creating some sort of hum so i stuck to speakers til three or so years ago when i had some decent equipment after rediscovering the joys of headphones with my Koss UR40 playing Warhammer 40k Dawn Of War 2.

Just picked up some Koss Pro-4AAT headphones last week and think i may have found my favorite sound at last. I actually heard the soft pitter patter of skeever feet running up some dungeon stairs without any exaggerated soundstage of being too near or too far. Something i never heard before with any of my other ten plus headphones and bookshelf speakers. Its enough to make one give up on speakers all together. Still speakers have their magic especially in the right settings where there are no distractions and where i dont become a distraction to others. At the moment thats not the case but its better then before now that my cranky old dementia rattled neighbor downstairs has moved away.

I prefer stereo and never really got into surround sound with or without headphones. I get enough bass without a subwoofer. I do setup my Windows XP to 5.1 whenever playing Skyrim though since thats the only way the sounds will play at a proper volume. When using them in stereo ingame sounds are way too low.

I've been using them literally since I was born and I have the photo to prove it; over 30 years. They were my father's from his hi-fi days. I started using them in earnest back in 1993 or so.

I bought a back-up pair off eBay for about $10. For anyone who likes headphones, I recommend picking up a set just for fun. I don't know how they compare to modern studio headphones, but they have always sounded darn good to me. Skyrim sounds like real life.

yeah i know what you mean with the footsteps, i can hear goats footsteps lol, not sure about the further away things and stuff, but i never noticed my companion heavy breathing before neither, not that i really want to, but its just that its that clear now and so much better than my crappy tv, my tv is a hd 32 inch teknika cheapy from tesco, but tbh it was a great price at 150 quid, it does the job, having to play at 1360x768, and im not even sure if thats the equivelent to 720p or what? my tv's native res is 1366x768 but windows recomends 1360x768 its advertised as having 1080i 720p, but if i try to set 1080i i get thses weird fuzzy verticle lines on ground textures that move up or down when moving, seen best on dark textures and i only really notice it on the ground wich i dont get with 1360x768, i dont really understand why that is tbh, also if i try to set as 1080i, i have to use gpu scaling to make it fit the desktop. in my tv manual it says to connect tv to pc using vga, im using hdmi, could this be why, it says to connect using vga and set res to 1366x768. thing is if i try setting tv to that, it only lets me have 30hz wich it says in ctalyst control centre, but my tv says its 60hz, in the manual it says, try 1366x768 at either 50hz, 60hz, or 75hz, but catalyst only lets me have 30hz or 60 hz according to my tv, if i try changing the hz for 1366x768 it just changes the res to something lower, any ideas why that is, got any techy people in here?

I've Asus Xonar Essence STX high-end soundcard (cost about 200€) and Sennheiser HD-555 stereo headphones (cost over 100€).

Sennheiser HD-205 here. Very nice basic headphones. I thought there was no need for more since my actual sound card is an integrated crap one (neither I have intention to upgrade).

If you can hear music, then your PC has a sound card. Either integrated in the motherboard (like mine), or not.

And yes, obviously any PC with a PCI-e slot can get upgraded with a better sound card.

Well, that depends of what you connect to it. Obviously your 200 € 7.1 Dolby etc. megasound card won't get any benefit from your crappy 2 € earphones you just bought on the automatic machine near the supermarket. And vice-versa.

But if you've a nice sound card, and nice headphones/speakers (like those Sennheiser HD-555 the friend mentioned above), it can greatly improve your experience.

so it seems on forums you can never get a straight answer can you? lol, basicly some people say you dont need a sound card, only if your making music, and some saying you do notice it if you got decent speakers, confused, well im happy with the sound anyways, got the dss coming if a few days, ive allways loved music in games, some of my favs are fable 1 and 2, assassins creed 2, oblivion, mass effect 1 and 3, skyrim, loads of others that i cant think of. also dragon age 1, specialy the camp music, so relaxing.

The turtle beach dx series are good phones, but the dss module is the key, as it is the dolby digital decoder and can be used with any binaural/stereo headphones. I use it with my akg's for single player or blurays and the dx phones with the mic for COD. It just takes the optical feed from the console or pass thru from your av receiver. They can be used with any Dolby output and are much cheaper than most other 5.1 decoders for phones.

nice to know they wont be a waist of money then, i was worrying if they were worth it, but according to the reviews on amazon and comments here they are indeed worth it

no idea why it quoted twice
