Tullius Gives Random Imperial Gifts

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:54 pm

I started doing the Civil War Questline recently, but I've been using ONLY the equipment I am given by the Imperials.

At first, I received the Imperial Light Boots, Greavess, and Helmet, Imperial Shield, as well as the Studded Imperial Armor. I also managed to snatch an Imperial Sword and Imperial Bow off some dead Imperial soldiers. I was pure Imperial.

Then Tullius gave me an ELVEN Sword, and I used it.
Then he gave me an ORCISH Shield, and I used it.
Then he gave me Steel Plate Armor, and I used it.

Doesn't this seem a bit random? Elven, Orc, and Steel Plate doesn't necessarily match. What else will he give me?

It depends on what level you are because it is too hard to create unique items.

Agreed unique imperial and stormcloak items would have been better.

Yeah, Ulfric Stormcloak does the same thing, and it's kind of strange.

I also found it strange how the soldiers will give you a new name after every mission. So after mission #1 I'm Bone-Breaker, then after mission #2 I become Butt-Kicker, etc. etc.

Why not just give me one name and stick with it?

You're advancing in ranks, so it is suitable for the troops to call you by your title.

No reason to call a General a Captain.

The names the soldiers give you are not titles. They're nicknames.

The Stormcloak ones are. The Legion ones are proper titles.

No it's not. It's not hard to make a scaled(or not scaled) unique item.

Then what's Ulfric's rank? Whip-Cracker?
How about Skeever-Butt?
I guess I was asking for that.

Unfortunately, common words cannot communicate facial gestures or vocal inflections. Consequently, sarcasm can be pretty hard to read on a forum, especially when you use it like that.

More woes caused by an overuse of procedural generation.

Better solution, especially given that Smithing can make everything overpowered.

Imperial: Imperial armor/weapons with leveled enchantments (Often Two enchantments to offset the weakness of the set). Radiant Light/Heavy armor depending on skill.

Stormcloak: Stormcloak Armor/Nord Hero weapons with random leveled Enchantments. No Heavy armor option for Stormcloaks though...

More importantly, a unique reward for completing the storyline of the Civil War.

Imperial: Lords Mail (Light) or Chrysamere. (Fitting as these were integral to the Legion in Morrowind)

Stormcloak: Fists of Randagulf or Mace of Aevar Stone-Singer. (The only directly Nord-Related artifacts)

I also got an Elven fire sword and that thing managed to save my life quite a lot of times. And since Solitude is stilla trading city and the legion (still?) has a fair number of orcs in their ranks, I don't think that's unrealistic. Why not reward the guy who saved the day with something unique instead of some human steel stuff everybody has?

I've always found it odd that quartermasters at Imperial camps never sell Imperial equipment except the bow (on occasion). Even the blacksmith in Solitude does sell Imperial gear, he only gives you one set of armour free, and no weapons. He doesn't sell you Imperial gear even after you join the Legion. Where is everyone getting all these Imperial swords from?

The problem of underwhelming rewards in Skyrim is quite common. Personally, I'm not interested in all too powerful items but something unique, even if useless, something that is not possible to obtain in any other way. That would be a proper reward.

Tullius told me to "accept this blade" and gave me an Ebony Shield.
Well... I'm not complaining.

I was going to mention that in the OP, but figured it was best not to. However, he gave me an Orcish Shield.
