Playing as a "support" class

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:24 pm

Hey, I've played Skyrim since launch, and have tried many different kinds of characters, from full blooded mage to two handed berserker. Lately, however, I started growing tired of fighting(not completely, just wanted to try something else), and I thought of playing like a healer/support class, who uses a companion to do most fighting, and then only heals and buffs him. Using spells like Courage and Heal other I think it could be viable, but I'm not sure.

I have a couple of questions. First, the obvious one, What do you think? Does it sound fun, or is there not enough to do as a support class and I will get bored? And also, is the follower AI good enough to fight on its own, and tank mobs to keep them of me while healing him?

I tried this for a while but combat got a but repetitive and in areas where you followers can't follow you you can get killed so easily...try it though!

Invest in Conjuration to avoid headaches like the situation above.

I did something like this with my bard, but I did join in the fray. I found a heavy mercenary in some pub, hired him, then buffed him as necessary and let him distract all the baddies while I helped whittle them down with my blade. So to answer your question, playing a support class can be really fun and a good change of pace, just make sure to taylor it to your play style a little so that you stay interested.

Well, the biggest problem i see is: who are you going to support? Follower and summoned creature are still a pretty poor party, especially given the not-that-bright companion AI.

I have played such character in Dragon Age and it was pretty interesting, but them being party-based games it is much more viable than in Skyrim.

Still, that would propably make for quite a unique gameplay experience. May have to try it myself too :)
