I can't decide how to role-play my mage.

I'm thinking of making a High Elf (Altmer) pure mage. I will only focus on the 5 magic skills and maybe once I have finished that I will put points into Enchanting as it seems like an extra magic skill, but I don't really want enchanting until later. I want to be a pure mage and a master of the arcane arts.
I'm thinking of a build like this: http://au.ign.com/builds/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/create?d=0000000000000000001011111111111111111110001111121212111111111011111112001013111113

I don't know what perks are worth getting and which ones are not so I just chose perks that I think would fit my role-playing as I have never made a mage.

Now the actual problem is that I cannot decide on how I want to role-play this character. I prefer to be a good person and help people as I feel there is more to do and I like the rewarding feeling when you help someone but I also want to do the Daedric quests as I haven't tried them (and want the trophy) but it may seem evil and wouldn't fit the whole 'good' character. I will also be doing necromancy and summoning which I think may be considered evil as well. I'm also an Altmer which a lot of people think are arrogant and Thalmor bigots.

Anyway I want to be a good person and help out people but I also want to do Daedric quests and necromancy/summoning. How could I role-play this character? I was thinking of trying the neutral approach and doing everything but I can't think of any ideas on how to role-play it. I was thinking of making this pure mage a character that does everything in the game but some things may not fit in well like the Companions. I want to make him a good person who helps people but also does the Daedric quests. I was even thinking of being a good person and joining the Dark Brotherhood as well.

I just don't know how to role-play my character and would love some ideas to inspire me to play. I want to make this character but I just can't decide on his alignment.
Maybe the idea of being a nice helpful person but he is frowned upon for being a High Elf and everyone thinks he's a Thalmor or bad person. He tries his best to help out but everyone still shuns him. So he begins to become evil and join or help people who accept his power or something. I don't really know because I can't think of how I can do everything and role-play it.

Thanks.

For necromancy, just have him view it as another form of magic. For the DB and daedric quests, as you said just have him become evil for some reason and do these quests, but then he realizes what he's become and saves the world in the college questline or something along those lines.

Edit: typos

Well. For the DB you kill grelod cause she is a...Ahem...Witch.....so maybe you could go about trying to justify all the murders. My priest decided he needed to infultrate the DB and take them out, but to do so he had to kill someone to get their attention, Grelod happened to be a perfect target because of her demeanor. Aside from that you could play the sellspell *cough, good joke there aye?* like that one mage guy in riften. A Neutral good character sounds like the kind your after. He will have a hard time, but honestly, you could justify anything. Hope that little bit helps. Oh, and for the companions, maybe you could say that he joined the companions because he believes that, despite being a mage, a sound body is needed for a sound mind? I know, that one is way out there :P but anyways. Good luck my friend, I too role-play and have difficulty justifying actions, and thus don't do all the quests on any one character, but I'm sure you'll figure it out ^^

Your guy doesn't have to be evil to aid the Daedra - he only has to see fulfilling their demands as a means to an end. By helping them out, he can gain access to powerful weapons whose might can be turned towards doing good instead of spreading evil. Better that they be in his hands than in the hands of Daedra, eh? Besides, a few of the quests do some good in and of themselves. In many cases you're asked to kill evildoers who have in one way or another offended the Daedric lords and ladies they serve.
As for necromancy, I remember hearing one of the members of the College state that it's not actually frowned upon. Make him swear to only bring back those who deserve a fate worse than death and keep to that oath. No raising of innocents. The bad guys get punished and the good guy gets undead slaves. See? It all works out!

I think you should play a good person and the reason you Necromancy is to help the good. It's not evil if you are using it to help the good. And for the Daedric quests you are completing them to prevent bad people from getting the powerful weapons. I don't know how you could join the Dark Brotherhood. Maybe you're a good person who helps everyone. You even help bad people.

Yeah, I haven't done all the Daedric quests yet, because most of them are evil. I tried to role-play an evil assassin but [spoiler] when I decorated the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary at the end of the quest-line, there was a (mostly) naked Elf girl in chains begging. That went too far, for me. I Just can't get behind a character that likes to torture random people for fun. I quit playing that toon, and never did those Daedric quests. And why would assassins even have a torture chamber? It's business. You kill'em and run. I mean, technically, you are a serial killer...but it's not "Silence of the Lambs".

I know it's just a game, and they're just animations, but I like to play like the player character is the protagonist of a fantasy novel, and I have trouble role-playing evil, because I can't like the character. I have fun by roleplaying different good guys. From each race. I make up different back-stories for them all. I just don't do the evil stuff.

I don't care if I miss out on achievements. Achievements in a single-player game are kind of pointless to me, anyway. In WoW, at least there are a few other people that might give a damn, because they're doing the same thing, so you could show-off. But no one cares about my achievements in a single-player gamne, no one else is playing. So I don't worry about it and just do what's fun.

Funny that you mention this. My Assassin wasn't evil. But he killed whoever he wanted (I suppose that is evil) but he helped people as well. When I got the torture chamber I killed all the people right away and they never respawned haha. I got bored of this character and so I never got to do the Daedric quests.

OP-

just wanted to let you know that, i think, there are 6 more perks points available than actual perks in the magic group. therefore, depending on how high you're going to level this character all you have to do is take a look at the perks and find 6 of the most meaningless ones available.

If you have never made a mage, I would consider going with enchant early on for the magicka cost reduction you can get from enchant. With 8 perks in Enchant, you can save yourself 17 magicka cost reduction perks (only taking those magicka cost reduction perks which are necessary to get up the tree to other perks), which would let you get every other mage perk in the game. I put a bunch of points into magicka cost reduction perks for my Altmer mage and now at level 38, I am kind of regretting it because I don't have enough perk points left to do what I want to do (without grinding my non-magic skills, which I am loath to do). At higher levels, destruction magic can be very challenging without enchant (or spamming restore magicka potions).

take this into consideration, however: you can grind them for a bit to give yourself some quick perkpoints and then NEVER actually use them in the game.

for me, one of the biggest flaws of skyrim is that we don't ever get to actually play as the character we planned until the game is too easy and i might as well re-roll.

at least, this way i'm playing who i want to be much sooner.

I play a High Elf Necromancer.
Eltha?n (it's name) is a good guy who sees no harm in giving the dead one last purpose or to use the neccesary evil for the greater good.

Yep. That's the problem with not having character classes. Really wish they had figured a way to fix the class system from prior games rather than just deleting it.

I roleplay my Battlemage as I would normally RP the Knight class. It makes it alot more interesting than just being super mage 3002 and helps enforce the 'good' part. As for daedric quests he's done a few, being either tricked into doing them or out of curiosity/hunger for knowledge. I try to choose the 'good' ending at all times, and protesting the notion that I'm the puppet of a daedric prince.

Sounds like a good idea.

I might just go with the flow. Help people, use summoning/necromancy to help people, and do the Daedric quests to get on their good sides. I am so nice that I will help the Dark Brotherhood, maybe.

Play a two faced character, while in public and at the college play an aspiring mage who hopes to bring peace from High Elf's to the people of Skyrim, but really you're a dark necromancer that is building power and trying to take down the imperials.
