He works fine for me. Maybe your Erik ran away to my save. :P

As for buggiest follower I've encountered so far...'sup Barbas. Tell him to follow you, he follows you so close he'll probably bump you off a cliff. Or two. Or three. Tell him to wait, he doesn't. He just turns around and heads straight back to "home." ...Actually that last one I'm perfectly okay with. Kept him out of my hair while I finished that quest, which was much better than the alternative.

Oh, and at a certain point...Delphine was supposed to be following me and we were doing just fine. Until suddenly, halfway past Whiterun, she decided that no she wasn't, she was going on ahead without me. And then ran off in what appeared to be the complete opposite direction of the quest objective. What the hell, lady.

Delphine always vanished during the fight at the bridge keep for me. I'd find her again at the dragon mound I was supposed to follow her to. On the third playthru I just went to Kinesgrove first then when I came to that quest I could just teleport to it.

My most buggy follower is Lydia. No matter what gear I give her she will not upgrade from her stock stuff.

Never ride a horse while a companion is following you, unless you want to see something ridiculous. Companions not being able to ride their own horse RUINS the fun of having companions and horseback riding for me.

I had a lot of problems with Onmund for a while, to the point where he became useless as a companion (he would never attack, just creep around with a spell ready which he would never cast, and nothing fixed it) but at one point the problem magically (har har!) seemed to go away...I've been using him since without issues, so I don't know what it was...

That reminds me...when I did that quest I ran with Delphine all the way to Kynesgrove. On the first try, just past Valtheim Towers, she just...disappeared. As in one second I was running along beside her, looking straight at her, and the next she was gone. Poof, off into the ether. Didn't reappear anywhere either. Had to reload my save and try again.

Barbas, but I'm not sure if it's a case of trolling or just stupid

This happened to me too. I dismissed him near Darklight Tower and was planning to return to Rorikstad after I finished a quest, to ask him to marry me. But he never turned up in Rorikstad. :(

Marcurio isn't truly buggy, but I haven't used him much because his Chain Lightning is too risky for friendly NPCs.

My Lydia wears a steel-horned helmet now. I did get her to use some dwarven boots once, but I thought they looked terrible with the rest of her steel outfit, so I took them away. She can use a staff too, and has that lovely infinite-arrows thing that I find so useful. Just find a few daedric arrows, give them to her, and let her multiply them for you in some long archery duel with a camp legate, or someone else who can't die.

Aela will act weirdly during, er, a certain big quest.

Spoiler
The battle of Whiterun.

She talks to you normally, but constantly runs away from you. If you stop chasing her, she'll be gone. That was quite annoying, but fortunately she was available again after the conclusion of this quest.
