Armor Upgrade Variances?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:03 am

Quick question that is coming up from the contradicting things I keep reading.

I just got the ability to upgrade Glass to Legendary. Just for argument sake lets say my Smith Skill is 100 and I have the Glass Armor Perk. If I boost my Smithing skill further using amulets, potions, etc. above 100, will the Legendary Glass armor I make then be better than before?

In other words, is Legendary Legendary and that it, or can one Legendary piece of armor have a better AR than another Legendary piece of the exact same armor (due to a boosted Smithing skill)?

Thanks.

Yep, your Legendary stuff can become "legendarier". Very much so infact!

I have not played around with Smithing Boosts much. However, I did amp up my character with a couple of Enchanted Items and quaffed a boost beverage. The items I made, while still in the same "Class", as before, which in this case was Legendary, did offer better stats than when I made them unboosted.

So, yes, it will have better stats, but I am not sure if you can jump a "class" this way.

Yes, Legendary goes up through at least 16 different "Legendary" levels naturally in the game. By using exploits certain exploits, you can boost the "Legendary" Status to numbers high enough to simultaneously one-shot every living thing in every Elder Scrolls game collectively. (Millions). There's really no point in upgrading armor beyond 600, and no point in upgrading weapons beyond 1500 damage though, as everything will be floored on damage against you, and power attacks will one-shot everything.

Thanks for the responses.

So when you find a Blacksmith potion that says the increase is 20%, does that actually mean it adds 20 points to your Smithing Skill, or does it take what you Smithed, and the multiplies it's AR or damage by 1.2?

It adds skill, but it's not a flat value, it's a percent. So at 100 base skill, 20% would add 20, but at 50 skill, 20% would add 10.

I found this on the wiki:

Effective Smithing skill = ((Smithing Skill - 13.29) * (1 + Perk) * (1 + Enchant) * (1 + Potion)) + 13.29
Perk is either 1 or 0.
Enchant is the sum of your fortify smithing enchants, divided by 100.
Potion is your fortify smithing potion percent divided by 100.
((100 - 13.29) * (1 + 1) * (1 + 1.16) * (1 + 1.3)) + 13.29 = 874.84
With 100 skill, 4x29% enchants (4*29% = 116%), 130% potion enchant, and the perk, you will reach 874.84, for a bonus of +92/+46 (Legendary 21)

I saw that, but even with a BS in Mathematics it took me a while to figure it out. Still not sure what Legendary 21 means.

So, if I have no boost, but I have a Skill of 100 and all Perks, where would that put my AR and damage bonuses? The table says Legendary is +20 and +10. But with Perk I would have 9 'extra' Smith skill points, right?

Legendary 21 means that it's the 21th rank of Legendary quality (yes there's that many!).
The quality list goes like this:
Fine
Superior
Exquisite
Flawless
Epic
Legendary
Legendary2
Legendary3
etc

So, if I have no boost, but I have a Skill of 100 and all Perks, where would that put my AR and damage bonuses? The table says Legendary is +20 and +10. But with Perk I would have 9 'extra' Smith skill points, right?

Without the perks and 100 skill, you can only improve items to Flawless, or +13/+7. With the perks, that goes up to the +20/+10

This maybe?

[ ( ( 100 - 5 ) / ( 103 / 6 ) ) x 3.6 ] + 2 = +21 (for armor, rounded down).
