hello everybody , i guess i have not been on the forums for quite a while but i decided to take a break from the computer (and skyrim) altogether because of the patch of very hot and pleasant weather we had in march here in england.

so im just asking everybody for a bit of advice or tips ( pointers aswell) on how i should go about a long-term player , by that i mean a chracter you would create and then play for a very long time ( such as ((these are OB stars :P)) buffy the bow girl or (damn i forgot that name) miracou (sorry i dont think thats how you spell your name) who plays a dark elf chracter .

i realise a lot of it is up to you but if you have any tips it would be much aprreciated- ow and its nice to be back :L

I'm not sure about any tips, because everybody plays differently. However...
  • You're playing for fun. Do not push RP too far for the sake of RP. You're RPing for fun, so if YOU don't like a particular quest, do not push yourself to do it just because your character "supposedly" have no problem with it
  • Know your difficulty. Some people insists even Master is still far too easy, I say sometimes you may want to play on Easy (especially for those kickass backstab killcams). Don't try to push yourself too hard. If you find yourself being stuck for an extended period of time just to get over something, it's best to give yourself a break and just be done with it, lest you don't actually play at all because of that

England has no pleasant weather. Stop lying you impostor.

Kidding aside, I think archer/mage characters are the longest lasting. Magecraft is good at all levels, as a direct attacking set of skills in the early game and as a incredible crafting skill in the late game. As such, an archer with light but enchanted equipment can be very powerful and very steady through the entire game.

Not only that, but they have two seperate skill sets which can justify themselves into almost any role-play situation. Sneak-thievery comes in handy all the time, as does magecraft.

EDIT:
Ah, the post above me makes some great points. Don't sacrifice fun for "hard-core-ness." There's no point. I certainly don't care if you don't play on master, and neither does anyone else, really. Pick what you like and just make it work how you like.

No reason not to. Game, after all, ya know?

My favourite and long term character build i've played is the Thief/Assassin... Playing only until the level 40, but still the best...

Oh, Buffy and Lothran! They seem to be very famous. The other day another well-known person on the Oblivion forums mentioned that they've had their character for 1.8k hours!

The secret is roleplaying. Quests can only sustain you for so long - you need to have a connection to your character and help them live their lives!

I saw that poster!! I still ... eh... have a hard time believing it. Not that there hasn't been plenty of time since Oblivion came out, but I wonder what he's clocking it with? Steam?

Through the in-game thing, I dare say. It's what I use! You can find the hours played on your saves when you load one.

And I believe it. Most of it is using a repeatable Legion quest from a mod, I believe.

Few of us run Oblivion on Steam. No, the play time is displayed in the menu, where you click on your save.

::EDIT:: Ninja'd!

Back-story. Back-story. Back story. Imho, without one you are playing a game, and your character is a bunch of numbers. Come up with a character with a bit of history, a bit of personality, that you would give a damn about if they were a character in a novel or film, then you are continuing that story instead of pushing buttons. That will last you longer than playing a game and doing the quests.

I agree. You don't necessarily have to work out the back story before you create the character, but think about who they are and where they came from, and you actually start to care about what happens to them.

I've been interacting with the same character since Morrowind.
Does that count?

Buffy's owner IRL, if I remember correctly, is a retired US AF pilot. I can certainly say that he has more patience than the usual young and energetic lads, and more passion, enough to play without custom mod/weapon mod.

well ah...thank you everybody , lady-mara its great to see you again , dont worry i didnt forget you! :P

yup some great advice , i am harcore rp but the advice about when it gets to the point that its not fun is a good one, recently ive flung all the RP crap out the window and just created a breaton male who is pursueing the thieves guild line - wow what great twists it has! i was so shocked to find......nevermind....

but yup personality counts a lot, i ALWAYS make back storys, its just something i naturally do i guess.

thanks alot anyway
