Xbox 360 or PC? (big decission)

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:19 am

(FIRST OFF, SORRY FOR THE TYPO IN THE TITLE, I MEANT PC BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EDIT THE TITLE)

When Skyrim first came out I was in the zone, I got it the day it was released and got it for the xbox 360, played it like crazy.

It was one of the best games I ever played.

Like usual I made my first guy and wielded a sword, then he evolved into sword and shield, then into mace and shield, then into dual sword, then dual magic, then bow and FINALLY landed with a mixture of everthing.
Thats usually the way my first character starts out in most games, have a plan then the plan gets jumbled into madness.

Second Character was pure mage, lots of fun.

Third character was all fists and no armor, also fun.

In the end I reached godlike stature on all of these characters and after hundreds of hours of playing I sent it back. (I have gamefly)

Now more to the point, thank you if you stuck with me through the babbling above.

Im now debating on getting it again for 360 but I'm afraid I'll play for a few days and reach the same godlike place I was in before.

So here is my TWO PART QUESTION.

1. Should I get Skyrim for the 360 again or try it on the pc for the mods?
2. Regardless of the system I play it on, what do you do to keep things interesting?
(I've already played on master difficulty so you dont have to suggest that)

1.CP() If you want mods.
But I'd recommend using a 360 controller (or downloading SkyUI).

2.Mods

Pc for the mods (perpetual potential for refreshed fun) and perhaps better graphics. Supposing your Pc is good enough.

PC if you have a very good PC or can afford to buy a very good PC.
Xbox if you don't have that much money to throw around for one game.

Meh, I've never really bothered with mods myself and dislike playing games on my computer, but if that's what it takes to give yourself a challenge and hold your interest, then CP, definitely.

Oh that centre formatting was completely necessary and tons of fun to read, thanks for that. ^.^

You should always get an ES game for PC if your PC can handle it, the mods and the modding community itself make it far superior to any console version out there.

Pros/Cons between console and PC:

PC -
Pros: A constant stream of fresh content, bug fixes, game improvements, and a game you can modify to your hearts content without any need of advanced technical knowledge.
Cons: Needing a decent gaming PC or PC in general for all of that.

Consoles-
Pros: None whatsoever.
Cons: Everything.
-

Yes I'm a console player and yes I'd much rather have Skyrim on PC.

I would never buy an Elder Scrolls game for the Xbox if I had the option to buy it for the PC.

Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with Xbox, I have one and have bought quite a few games for it...but never Elder Scrolls.
Why? Oh, there are a lot of reasons. In no particular order:

1.MODS. The amount of content the modders make is amazing! You find everything, for every taste. We have really talented and ingenious people modding the TES. Kudos to them!
2. Community patches. Tied to no. 1. For me the Unofficial Patches were a Godsend! They work very well in my case, fix a lot of things (and when I say a lot I really mean it!) Just look at the Unofficial Skyrim Patch to see what I'm talking about.
3. The access to the Developer Console. That one fixed a few Radiant Quests for me in the beginning.
4. More power from the PC hardware.

To keep things interesting...Hmm, well there are a multitude of things you can do, even if playing on Console. Like trying Dead is Dead, or going with a different type of character (a peaceful one, a "turle" mage, only using Hand-to-Hand, a Stage 4 only Vampire, etc,)

If you have access to mods it gets even more interesting. I currently play with Survival mods like Hypothermia, Imps More Complex Needs (for eating) so it's really immersive.
And after installing the Playable Instruments mod I can finally role-play a Bard, like I always wanted too.

Go PC. It is infinitely better than both consoles in every category.

Explore, do things on a whim. You see something that looks interesting, go after it. Don't make it repetitive by looting EVERYTHING because then every dungeon will become a haul of loot then return for more loot and you'll be overwhelmed with money.

Roleplay!

This will not end well. These type of threads will ALWAYS spark a platform war.

Be advised...

Without a doubt go for PC, Skyrim is a great game without mods. However with the world of mods upon you you can pretty much play the game hundreds of hours longer then you would have without.

Go with the PC if you can afford it. I'm thinking of getting a gaming PC for this game too, but I don't really know much about the specs needed to run the game well with some mods.

If your PC can handle it, then there's no question: get it on PC.

Yeh, but what's a "very good PC"? A very lose description considering the many variations out there.

I'm far from a computer expert, so I wouldn't know what's best and what isn't. Aside from Oblivion, my laptop is jut used for basic word processing and Internet surfing ;) that sort of question is best asked in the Hardware forum, I'd say!

The better question is, "What's your budget?" You can probably make something work, in the $800 range. I just put $1200, in the rig I built.

You will get the best advice from the folks in the Community Discussion Thread. There is a tech thread there, with some very savvy people.

Each has ana dvanatge, in the ned for me PC is the gaming platform of choice because it is more versitile. I can pick the type of controller I want to use. I can pick the level of game detail I want. I have access to large and active modding communities. I can do a lot more than gaming. I can actually make my gaming rig myself.

Your always going to get a one sided argument when you ask a question like this on a forum that is mainly has PC users. I own both, and I prefer Xbox over PC for a few reasons so you should ask yourself what you really want. While I like some mods and using the cheats... I hate sitting a computer for hours (and before someone says hook it to a TV... this isn't an option) nor do I really like steam compared to XBL. So I would take a look at some of the different mods available and see if there any that you really really want.

The only mod that is really nice to have is the unofficial patch for PC... but I fine the Xbox version to be pretty stable myself. In the end I got both, and I use both... because I wanted the best of both worlds.

Why not just try another game?

If you get Skyrim for the PC, you'll get a little bit more enjoyment out of it if you mod. But since you already put in so much time, I doubt you're going to get the same kind of enjoyment that you did from the console. I'd question whether or not it's worth it to buy the game again regardless of the platform.

you haven't played skyrim untill you played it on a pc, this is in no way trying to bash console players
but just about everything is better on pc than on a console in this game
Sure you might suffer the occasional crash burt since patch 1.5 it almost never happens anymore

And of course the mods , they make skyrim a even richer game
