Is having over 1000 seperate saves on Xbox dangerous?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:27 pm

I save all the time in fear of glitches or i feel i need to re-do something.. i have over 1000 saves spanned over 2 full playthroughs and one or two small time characters.. is this potentially dangerous to the hard drive? Could it like.. overheat trying to load them? It takes a good 30 seconds to load them all up, and i feel like one day its just gonna explode on me xD I have an Xbox 360 Slim by the way..

Is the game installed to the harddrive and how large is the file size for all the files. I don't think it will cause any issues but that is a large number of saves. You could drop it to 25 for each character starting with the older saves, possibly leaving one at the beginning after the tutorial area, if you like the face enough but don't want to redo the tutorial.

Apart from taking up lots of memory I don't think it'll cause anything too bad. I just save over my older saves anyway...

Well with each save taking 3mb and over you'll run out of HD space eventually.

Wait a min...I thought the save files had a limit of 100. IIRC Oblivion had a max limit on the Xbox.

Nope, New Vegas is the only Bethesda game that i can think of that had a save limit, on Skyrim i have exactly 1066 saves, im sure i have around the same if not more on my Oblivion and Fallout 3 games aswell xD

Dangerous...probably...if only for the IQ points it robs you of!

You only need about 4.

Just keep saving over the oldest.

The urban legend of file corruption by this method is often barked by your "Tinfoil Helmet" types and should be ignored as the worthless garbage it is!

How are you not crashing every 30 seconds? I just moved to the PC and before I had to limit my saves to 5, keep my cache clear after more than 5 hrs of gameplay and have a small fan blowing on the console. 1066 is just insane.

Ask yourself how many of the 1000+ saves your are likely to ever use if the answer is 7 or 8 then delete the rest.

Why not just overwrite saves frequently? I personally only have 2 or 4 saves for each character. That might just be because I could care less if I got a glitch and never feel like my character made a mistake in his/her actions.

Did you have a normal 360? Those things were built terrible for ventilation. Also if the room temperature is hot that doesn't help. I have a slim and have played Skyrim for over 10 hours when I first got it and didn't have a problem. I have about ~80 serperate files. It will warn you and shut down if it gets close to overheating. Im not defending the eX BawKs, just saying, it sounded like you had a bad experience.

Le topic, 1066 is freaking rediculous. I keep like 4 alternating saves for each character just in case, and at close to 600 hours now and I havn't had a single save corrupt or data loss. Besides forgetting to save that is...

I didn't mean for it to sound like I was struggling. Yes it was/is a regular 360. The room stays 70 F year round. I wasn't experiencing near thermonuclear meltdown. But all of those little things improves performance w/ lag and crashes. It's just 1066 is off the charts.

I'm not sure if this thread is an actual query or just a "hey! look what I did" note.

1000 saves sounds like a bit of paranoid overkill. Granted, I haven't been playing as much as a lot of you have (I'm still only at or around a 100 hours total for all my characters so far, for various reasons) but I find I've been able to get away with no more that 5-10 rotating saves per chracter. Any more than that I feel is a waste of HD space.

I used to have around 1,300 saves and it took about 45 seconds to completely load up the "load" or "save" options. I figured it wasn't good for my Xbox, so I took a half-hour deleting all the saves.
It works better now, and takes about 10 seconds to load up the options to "save" or "load." I'm a bit like you, and have to save when I enter, leave, fast travel, or wait every time just because... well I feel "safe" in a way (As in I won't have to go far, say, if my game freezes and I have to reload a save).
Then again my game has only frozen once since release on my Xbox.
Oh, and to prove I save a LOT I'll post my no. of saves... 6761... for two characters...

Edit: Forgot to say, that having seven different saves per character, plus the 3 AUTO-SAVE's will "take-up" the whole saving screen. This helps me to not have to worry about accidently saving over one of my characters only saves, deleting that character forever.

I have 1 save per character and about 7 characters and that still annoys me. How the hell can you put up with 1000+ saves?!

Edit: Oh yeah, 221 saves over all 7 characters, 1 of which has over 200 hours game time.

I would hope not, I have at least 1,500 saves on Xbox 360 version of Skyrim and have yet to have any corrupted saves or serious bugs. I have ran across a few minor bugs but the advantage of having so many saved games is that I can actually just go back and reload from several hours before and 90% of the time I won't encounter the issue again
