Lockpicking= Crime

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:49 pm

So I recently came upon something odd in Deimos's stats. It says Crime, Lockpicking 22. And I am very utterly baffled. Deimos has been out in the wilds and he has been lock picking random chest in dungeons. And not ones with steal on it. [He stole a gem stone once, but one time and no one caught him] For the most part Deimos stays out of those kind of affairs.

So what all lockpicking ,even random stuff in non detail chest, is a crime?

All items at a certain vampire den (a quest wherein you have to retrieve a journal for a priest of Arkay) are marked red, maybe that's where you accidentally stole something.

Don't let someone else decide for you what a crime is. If you know you didn't do anything wrong then you are fine. The stat is just a number. I wouldn't consider it a crime unless you are breaking and entering.

I haven't been in any vampire dens. Only cause I fear Deimos catching Sanguine Vampirism. And so I stay clear of those. I didn't even go into Broken Fang Cave knowing what it was.

Maybe to avoid menu clutter, lockpicking is categorized as crime?

I didn't even know he was there, just jumped out nowhere. And he was carrying a message requesting help to an unnamed location from an unnamed person, so i may have killed a whole lot of people with that arrow :shakehead:

I have not seen any Red indicators on any door I have tried pick the lock on in a town. However, those doors are probably owned like the rest of the building is. So, perhaps someone "owns" those doors in a dungeon.

Or, perhaps this counter is just for any door you lock pick. Heck, it could even be any lock like on a chest, but I would imagine you have opened more than 22 locked chests in this game.

Doors are never marked as 'owned' in-game, however any locked door (even TP doors) attached to an owned dwelling is usually set to owned as well, so if you pick it it's considered breaking and entering.

If you don't have a key to it, you shouldn't be trying to open it.

The bunch of evil dudes doing some ritual on the other side of that door make me think that getting through it (via lockpicking) is a Very Good And Noble thing to do.

(And then there's the whole I'm An Adventurer!? thing.... Adventurer, kleptomanic, same difference. If there's a box or door in a dungeon, it's getting opened. :D)

Do you have a warrant? Otherwise it's considered tresspassing.

I don't go through chest as often. Deimos is only lvl 8. And I try to limit my game

-Rarely fast travel [unless companions aren't showing up no matter the wait]

-Do not loot a lot of the chest

-Do not take all the gold and jewels, only enough to buy spells

-Do not pick up every weapon

The only thing I do not do is DID.

Try picking some different locks in dungeons and see what increments the counter. I wonder if it is any door or any chest or if it is just some doors and some chests.

You can always reload without saving so your character remains pure to the role. I am at work so I can't do this right now.

"Kleptomanic"? I'd rather say "thieving, mass murdering hobo" :P

The game stats regard picking an unowned lock as a "crime" even though there is no fine for it. :shakehead:

The stat can be reset with the console (if you are on a PC).

I'm no on a PC sadly. But that's just a little bit sad. Deimos is racking crime up by not committing crimes.

If you think that is sad , then try the civil war questline and watch the "murder" stat.
