Similar or different?

So I was thinking, and I realized that my follower usually matches my character's fighting and personality style. For example when I'm a mage, my follower is usually a mage (not by coincidence). So I was wondering, do you guys tend to stick with followers similar to you to do things simultaneously? Or do you tend to pick someone who's the exact opposite of yourself to fill the gap of things you can't do, to work together in combat?

I used to be a lot, especially as stealth characters, but lately I've just been trying to find stealthy companions instead of being alone

I do the opposite. If I'm a Mage I usually get a warrior..if I'm a sneaky assassin I get an archer or a mage. Whatever im in the mood for. And if I'm a warrior...well I'm never a warrior

For me it's about roleplaying, not combat mechanics. My characters tend to form attractions to certain NPCs and those are the ones they ask to be followers, regardless of what kind of combat they specialize in. My Dunmer, for instance, made a special pilgrimage to the Shrine of Azura. Aranea Ienith became a follower. My Nord would never have gone to that shrine, much less agreed to have a Dunmer follower. My Nord character recruited Uthgerd the Unbroken even though they had very similar combat styles.

I may try it soon. Have not had one follower in near 250 hrs across 2 characters.

That's true. I take my followers very seriously. I tend to find followers of the opposite six too, cause I like to marry them and have a really special bond when we're killing things together

wow that's a long time. I usually have one for a long time, but since I like to have a bond with my follower, if it dies I travel solo for an almost equally long time, because I can usually never find someone better since I was so used to the last one

Haha hey, to each his own. Unfortunately there's no option to marry your hand in Skyrim

I tend to like melee style companions.

Mostly, because I play on Master difficulty, and even though I put a lot of points into Health, and wear Heavy Armor, I find that tanking is essentially impossible on Master difficulty, so I need a big beefy warrior type who can get in there and pull focus off of me.

Which kind of svcks because I want to be able to get into the mix and take hits, but it feels impossible on Master difficulty.

So even as a heavy armored warrior, I tend to go for other heavy armor warriors as followers.

I've never played on Master, that must be ridiculous. That makes perfect sense, but don't you feel remorse for your injured/dead/used followers haha
