Destruction. Enemies get too close? Choose one of the shroud spells (which pretty much deal AOE over a given time damage to enemies near you.) Frost spells tend to slow, fire spells increase damage recived AND deal DoT, Lighting spells sap an opponent's magicka. Dual casting can improve/overcharge spells, increasing damage output.
In contrast, the archery perk tree, consists of either making it better for you hitting your enemie or for recovering your arrows/run speed. Can Knock Down enemies, increase critical hits, and steadies your aim... but you require other disciplines to create additional effects that may help in certian situations, such as elemental weaknesses.
