What do you call this 'class'?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:36 am

I know before Skyrim, there were classes with names, I don't remember any of them, at all.

I use
  • Illusion (Fear, Fury and Invisibility)
  • Destruction (I mostly use all of the spells)
  • Alteration (Paralyze, Detect Life)
I don't know if you can see, but I am focus on being a Shadow Mage, Shadow Mage Vampire, something.. Is there any name for this in previous games or other fantasy games?

Doesn't matter. You're still just a general Wizard or Mage. You aren't focused really and follow several different schools, which is what a general D&Dish Wizard/Mage would do.

I'm with most of the other posters. I'd say your character is simply a normal mage.

You use magic, what do you call someone who uses magic? Restoration falls into a priest school as well, while potion crafting would be an alchemist. So you are just a magic user. I think Mage/Wizard is a perfect title.

If you're focusing on Stealth and Magic (which is what I think you're going for), if you throw one-handed and sneak in there, you'll have Nightblade, a class from previous ES titles.

You wouldn't be any more or less of a mage for using other magic skills.

Given that you're pretty offensive (lots of Destruction, controlling spells in Illusion, and pretty much the only offensive spells in Alteration), combined with some stealth and reconnaissance (Invisibility and Detect Life), I'd say you're something of a warlock. I mean, that is, if it makes you feel more immersed to have a name for your class.

Anyway, I think your build is pretty cool and I might try it sometime.

you only listed 3 skills, so its kinda hard to determine the class... considering there are 7 skills per class in oblivion

Actually, sorcery is more in tune with the school of conjuration as well as some alteration... This guy is pretty much a basic wizard.

A Sorcerer would be more of a Conjuration/Illusion mage.

That's the archetypical mage. You got your offensive magic, defensive magic, and crowd control magic. If you swapped destruction for one-handed I'd call you a bard.

Nope. According to the Oblivion class, a sorcerer is a mage who wears heavy armor ;)

I agree that one would need to consider a few more skills to decide the class. My assumption is you are probably also doing sneaking as you have inviso listed, and at least are carrying a dagger and probably use it or a sword.

Therefore, I agree with the poster who said 'Nightblade' as that is straight up off the skill list:

Blade, Dest, Alter, Rest, Illusion, Sneak, and i forgot the last one, possibly alchemy

A Warlock to me would be more closely associated with Conjuration as they typically summon up creatures to help them.
