Personally, i don't really care that much about what kind of light amour gear is use (i'm a thief)
I'm not that interested in getting the 25% reduction or any other perks. I mainly use my Nightingale Bow
and a mix of dark brotherhood and guildmaster armour + some strange ring/necklace (something with archering
cough! and shouts) But, when it comes to my companions, i usually give them much better gear/weapons then i am using.
I just love when i see my companions strutting around in the most breathtaking outfit, while i am
just sitting there smiling at them and thinking: yes, yes my children, but you have still much to learn:)
