Technology in high fantasy generally does not progress further than mideval age, no matter how much time actually passes.

The biggest Technological revolution in Tamriel for the past 3,000 years is the water-powered sawmill.

So in that regard, within 2000 years, they'll have mastered the cow-powered grain mill.

Well, the dwemer had steam engines, many which still work. I bet someone would be able to figure out how they work. Even if they can't understand how the robots are powered by soul gems and require no water containers, they should still be able to figure out that the pressurized steam makes things move.

It's hard to study the technology with an 18foot Centurion crushing your skull.

I've always wondered why No-one has done it before, I think it'd be intersting even if it was victoria era.

Instead of a Knife jack the ripper used fire spells!

Tamriel has been in a tec. slump since the Dwenmer. Partly because tec killed their society. Partly because magic does so much what need is there for scientific advancement? Lastly, because Elder Scrolls are set in the past.

However, I for one would be VERY happy if Bethesda was to make Arcanum 2!

The Emporer would have a Twitter account.

Dwemers would have been the inventors of computers.

You'd have a main quest about investigating The Emporer's hacked e-mails to the Queen of New Daggerfall.

The thing about worlds like Tamriel is that magic tends to replace science in a lot of ways. The problems that drive humans in the real world to create and invent can usually be solved with magic in a world like Tamriel. That's why progress ... is almost non existent.

You have to remember, Tamriel has already been through thousands of years of high, civilized society. Some of the empires of the past were more developed and powerful than any of the modern era. If anything, they've taken 3 steps back and 1 step forward.

But that's ok. It's fantasy, and it's fictional. I like the whole myth that the Empires long since past were greater and more powerful than society of the present. Adds to the myth and mystery of history.

I loved arcanum. Awesome setting. Combat was hard for me though..never felt I was good at it.

Maybe they will re-discover the spear technology that seemed to have gotten lost.

The dwarves were fairly technologically advanced, and look what happened to them. Ordinary people are probably quite mistrustful of technology because of that.
