Suggestion: buffs and timers on the screen

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:58 am

I find it rather tedious that I have to click through the magic menu to see what are my active buffs and penalties, I think a minimalistic hud shouldn't take away the essential information from the screen. I wish Bethesda made this optional in the settings, if the player prefers to have the active effects on the screen like Oblivion, to see them in real time not by pausing the game. What do you say?

Yes I think Oblivion did this better with all those icons.

I'm not sure. I did like seeing how long my summons had left before they disappeared, but I feel like they'd congest the screen a little. Perhaps a toggle? Although with all of these suggested toggles they'd have to put in quite a list ;)
I wish they had more HUD options. I'd like to have the full HUD minus the icons for destinations you're close to - while I like the idea, it might be nice to play without for a while.

Some you can do without (e.g. flesh spells giving you that aura). But others are certainly useful to have - especially the illusion spells.

I'd be in favor.

It doesn't even need the massive icons of Oblivion fame. You could just have a row of small icons of Morrowind fame under the health, magicka and stamina bars, or above them, so that they are opposite to enchanted weapons. It's not like that is used space anyway.

I use Candlelight as a makeshift timer for Waterbreathing, I don't think it's very useful for other spells though.

I absolutely agree with OP. I don't understand how we are supposed to know when time is up for a buff. You can look at your character and see if it's still "glowing" but that doesn't always show you everything. I don't see why a small icon couldn't at least be present.
