ThiefAssassin question(s)

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:22 pm

Hey all,

Just started a new character: a Khajiit thief/assassin which I want to play within somewhat strict boundaries. Was wondering whether it'll be too limiting and/or if people have any tips on how to best play this character.

What I want to do is avoid questlines as much as possible (will probably do thieves' guild and dark brotherhood), as well as most contact with other people (npc's), basically levelling my skills from fighting in the wild, dungeon crawling and robbing people in cities.

I would like for him to wear cloth, use a bow and a dagger and not use any magic or crafting skills.

Is this viable, or would it simply become tedious very quick?

Also, I'd like to avoid the dragonborn thing if possible... if I don't talk to the jarl of whiterun, do I never get to fight any dragons?

Thanks :)

Better yet, don't talk to the smith or mill owner in Riverwood, depending on whom you followed during escape from Helgen.

Well...i see no issues with the build, wearin cloth makes for good sneaking, stealing from people is good leveling material. Go to Windhelm and find the female beggar who trains your pickpocketing. Get training and then pickpocket her for your money back

You can download the Alternate Start mod which gives you a wide array of choices when starting a game including things like automatically starting a guild quest-line, owning property in a hold, being shipwrecked, starting as an outlaw in the wilds etc.

One of my favorite characters to play is an Antisocial. Has no use for NPCs or Commerce or Quests. Just does his own thing in the land. Sometimes I will let him talk to NPCs and do some things, but usually, no contact.

It is a fun build and a challenge, especially if you only rely on what you find as a loot and never buy anything. With no weapon degradation and Stat Regen, this build is not as much a challenge to play as it was in Morrowind. Crafting does bring a new wrinkle into this as it is possible to make some good armor/weapons and never talk to anyone

Sounds doable and very challenging. You'll struggle until you get your archery skill up. Daggers at low levels are very weak until you take Backstab and Assassin's Blade. Elemental fury can help with the dagger damage output, especially if you dual wield.

If you are not buying anything, then you don't need to sell anything......

I think you should be ok.
Once the marksman skill starts to get higher, coupled with 3x sneak attack from the sneak perk tree, enemies will barley even be able to get to you.
My first character was a Khajiit marksman and thief as well. After a while, my light armor just stopped going up because I was never getting hit. I think the bow I use hits for around 125, then with an ebony arrow for 20 and then times 3, enemies drop like flies
And I am by no means an amazing player. I turned the difficulty up to master once i reached 50 and am still not have trouble at all.
I turn the difficulty up as I level.

Encouraging words so far :) played him to level 8 now and it is getting better quick, got the 3x bow damage which is great. I feel the "concept" will work better the more I level, simply because sneaking and pickpocketing will get better.

From an RP view starting as a thief makes explaining how you got in that cart at Helgen a snap... just like that horse thief over there.

On Adept it is probably very do-able. On Master the first 20 levels will be a challenge.

You could be a permanent level 4 vampire and really be antisocial.
