In my current character I made and ate a lot of food. There are several foods that are as potent as minor potions. Very useful. Around level 20 I started to make potions that were much stronger, so I will stop making and using apple cabbage stew and cabbage potato soup. But venison stew and vegetable soup I will always have some on me.

Horker stew is very good also, I noticed. Homecooked meal is very powerful if you marry. + 25% regen magicka, health, stamina for 5 minutes, according to what I read.

This
Some of the food is quite useful as a healing/stamina potion substitute at low levels plus I prefer to hoard my potions for when I'll really need them

Beyond the rp aspect, food and especially cooking are just distractions. Elywere Fondue is fun but my dude isn't a mage. I find potions to be much more expedient than food.

I just started using a hunger/thirst/sleep mod so I use it a lot. It adds quite a bit I feel. It did, however, seem to remove all benefits from food in terms of health and stamina bonuses for some reason.

I picked up a lot of food on my first character but then stopped doing so due to how little health they recover and since my character can go a whole year without eating and not suffer any consequences.

Given the great variety of food there is in the game and the ability to cook, I found it strange that they didn't make the character get hungry overtime, perhaps it having a penalty to health/stamina/magic regeneration or even the effectiveness of attacks.

I also don't see much of a point to sleep either. I can very much play the whole game without sleeping and it has no noticeable effect as far as I can see. I get a Rested and Well Rested bonus when i sleep but I have yet to notice any difference on my character with it.

well that's because they want to give you the chance to rp, but not punish you for not doing it. they could have added a toggle option though. or ask you in character creation in which way you want to play(rpler or not rpler)

Elsweyr Fondue and Venison Stew are more powerful than most potions.

I was laughing out loud this morning, reading this. You guys (and/or girls) are funny, but I wondered the same thing.
So besides cooling the food, it can be mixed at the Alchemy lab for potions? I'm looking for recipies.

I use it to bring up my health. And for a good reason to kill small animals. :P
Seriously, I'd eat before bedtime if I slept, but I don't sleep either.

The soups and stews are potent, for sure. That Elsw Fond is very handy for mages. Even the single stuff, though does not provide much HPs, saved my life, a few times.
