Would you want to have a political Elder Scrolls

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:49 am

I was wondering if people would enjoy (like i would) if the Elder Scrolls had more politics. Not to say take out the sword and sorcery that i have come to love from Morrowind (My first TES) to the present. But particularly the Civil War quest line felt that their should be more then just attack this town attack that town. Would you agree?

well, i figure TES needs to add some element other than hack-n'-slash, adding some, any, speech options would go a long way and i see no better way than looking at the politics of whatever nation we are going too next (and with the empire crumbling it could be even better)

YES.
There is TONS of political stuff that could be done - supporting guerilla factions in each political domain (the conquered people of the Thalmor, the forsworn and stormcloaks in skyrim), assassinations, stealing secret info or important items, sabotage, the list is endless.

I would definitely like to see more complex intrigue, spying and political machinations in TES. I'd like to see wars, diplomacy, negotiations and dynamic factions to flesh out the political landscape. Something closer to some of the in game books like A Game At Dinner, the 2920 series and The Real Barenziah.

I'd enjoy story arcs that are more subtle and convoluted with outcomes that are not easy to predict, but I really like mystery and a lot of grey area in my storylines. Sometimes you just have to accept that a game appealing to a large audience cannot be too specialized or too impenetrable to the lowest common denominator.

I agree. I feel like if they just said to hell with mass appeal and made the game rich with politics it would be better. In a similar vein, the concept of a working economy in TES has been raised before, which I think would be awesome.

as an example, it would be nice to convince Ulfric that other races aren't terrible, and to help the dunmer in windhelm. Things like that. You cant really alter opinions or motivations, you just dop what people tell you.

I'd say yes more politics and NPCs, just so long as they're not all set to essential...

problem is, all of this would require a lot more voice acting which probably isnt worth it to the developers

Elder Scrolls themed Tropico. Tons of politics for everybody. I would love it.

Yes civil war could have used some Daggerfall / Morrowind style political scheming between different holds, nobles where you take part in. While some missions were fun the story and overall execution were a let down. missed opportunity to make some use of the speech skill for instance.

Of course. One of the best quests in Skyrim was the one where you have to get both sides to stop fighting the war for a while. IMO, this is the best dialogue in the game.

I agree, I for one think that the Forsworn had a better cause to go to war than the stormcloaks, they were kicked outta their city simply because they refused to adhere to the nords "civilized" way of life. I think some political meddling would've been really fun. The blacksmith in windhelm has to get his steel from somewhere...sabatoge the mine and they're weapons quality goes down....
