Skyrim -- frustrations

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:20 am

Apparently not much since February the 8th...

No information, not even about the latest patch.
To me, this is very poor customer information and support.

on 7 Feb 2012 the Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1 mod was launched

on 9 Feb 2012 an error was identified:
We have identified a fix for the .ckm problem that some users are experiencing. We hope to roll the fix into a Steam update as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you are experiencing this problem and submit a Steam Support ticket, we can assist you with instructions for working around the error.
Since then there where some "Steam updates", but none for this mod.
Until now, 27 April, no nothing, no update, not even further information. Not even for computer noobs (like I am one) information what a ":ckm" is, what happens, what does it do, or not do.. I think: poor, very poor!

Is this customer ignorance to be filed as one of the zillion bugs in Bethesda's games?

Skyrim was defenatly not finished on the issue date. The only reason to throw it on the market was the date: 11.11.11... what a reason! Average 8 out of 10 quests are still bugged. Some could be fixed by modders, (Bethesda should pay them for doing their work...) This is great for those who bought this game for the PC, but what about those playing this game on a console? Right out of luck!

Sorry in case I sound kind of harsh in this topic, but there are here and there a few people who paid for this game, I am one of them.
When I buy a brand new car, I expect to receive service from the dealer, at least the first year. And I expect this car is complete with new tires under- and an new engine in it...
Of course nobody is perfect, errors occur that is good! That is the best way to learn for the future. The side effect of making errors is: it creates and keep jobs.

THIS is THE home page of Bethesda, THIS is THE place where customers check first. NOT "twitter, facebook" or what ever other type of (to my opinion totally useless) websites/"services". Eh.. most forums are exempted from being useless. Anyhow this is the first place to check.
When I have a problem with my car, I check back witth the car dealer, not with a barber or farmer.

This isn't the homepage of Bethesda, it's a forum.
Perhaps your issues would be best addressed to Bethesda directly rather than posted on a forum?

Firstly, I'd sooner check Facebook or twitter than these forums. Facebook and twitter are more popular, have a much larger user base and are much less intimidating than these forums.

Now to your comment about modders. They are given ALL of the tools needed by Bethesda, not to mention a beautiful picture which they simply need to tweak so that it's tailor-made to them. Sure, modders do a great job, but don't act as if they're somehow superior do the developers themselves.

And I consider it finished. Yes, there are flaws, but there ALWAYS will be in a game of this size. I've played hundreds of hours in vanilla Skyrim on my PS3. I wouldn't have done that on an 'unfinished' game.

And back onto the topic - their blog is updated very frequently, and will provide you with the latest information. These forums are a place for community discussion, not official announcements. Besides, it's highly unreasonable to expect a developer to tell you exactly what they're doing every ten seconds.

The problem with statements like this (apart from the fact that it is a made-up statistic) is that bugs are often hard to fix. Bugs are not always as easy to replicate on Bethesda's side as some players would like to think.

Modders run into this all the time. A mod user informs a modder that a certain mod malfunctions in a certain spot or while doing a certain thing. But this issue has never happened to the modder. The modder spends hours trying to replicate the glitch so he can see what's wrong and figure out how to fix it, but he can't. Other users of his mod can't replicate the glitch, either. So how does that modder fix a hard-to-duplicate glitch for one particular user?

A bug that everyone encounters is an easy bug to fix. But not everyone encounters every bug. I have played most of the quests in this game and I don't think I've encountered a single quest-related bug yet. These things don't happen to everybody. A bug that only a few players encounter now and then is much harder to track down and fix than a bug everybody encounters. The developer has to be able to verify exactly what the problem is and why it's occurring before they can even begin to find a solution. They have to know why it happens to some players and not to others so that their fix does not inadvertently break the game for those players who never experienced the glitch in the first place. This takes time.

I'll tell you something. No one one these forums has criticized Bethesda's customer support more than I have over the last ten years. I've been Bethesda's most vocal critic when it comes to customer support. I have consistently criticized Bethesda for their lack of patch support for previous games. But they have convinced me that they they are trying to do better. These last six months Bethesda have released as many patches for Skyrim as they released for Morrowind and Oblivion combined (and god knows those games sorely needed more patches). I have seen more developers and admin post on these forums during these last six months than during all the years I've been a member here. I am convinced they care and that they are trying their best to turn their poor customer service record around.

All good things take time. Expansion is worth waiting for. DLC is not.

Well.... there are two potential days they could announce something on. Today or the 30th.

I would not be surprised if they announced something on the 30th as its technically inside the month and all the complains would be for nothing lol. If they don’t well.... would bet money on seeing a topic stating this on the 1st lol.

Unless it's good DLC which provides an expansion ;)

Ah, but there will be no expansions for Skyrim! Dun dun duuuun!
Todd Howard has said that we'll be getting 'Expansion-sized DLCs' - I take that to mean an expansion that we download rather than purchase in-store.

I thought he said more substantial DLCs.

OP, I modified your topic title as it was misleading

And I would like to note that this is the Skryim user forums - for general info, mods, construction kit and so on... but it not, in fact, BGS Home page.

I can't get mad at a company that has made a game that i've sunk 500+ hourr in and still going.

It will come when it comes, there is no rush.
