Question about Kinect

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:44 am

Does using Shouts with Kinect get rid of that delay that sometimes happens when trying to use a Shout in combat?

I dont have Kinect, but now I'm considering getting it. This will make or break it really.

Not sure if asked and answered already so that's why I'm posting.

My experience is it is basically immediately after you say the word, there's a split second of delay, so far I have had zero issues with it, although sometimes it won't hear me when I speak it very softly, when I speak loudly and clearly it always works great.

Now, if it's any more instantaneous than the button pressing, I think it's really about the same. What I find the most nice is that they are just all available without switching around or scrolling through your favorites. It is very nice and has been completely smooth for me.

It doesn't work for the life of me. No matter how many times I shout at it (pun intended) it won't recognize.

I think I may have mis-worded myself in my OP, not that your answer isn't helpful mind, but sometimes when fighting I will try to use a Shout, but it refuses to trigger, no matter how many times I press the button untill the fight is over. I'm wondering if that is gone. Not having to scroll through the favorites, or go into the magic menu for one I dont use often is very appealing, I admit.

It seems like there is two different way to do it.
1. Using the english name of the Shout, i.e. 'Disarm' will make you use the Disarm Shout. It will always use the maximum level that you've unlocked.
2. Holding RB will allow you to use the words in the dragon language, so you can use only level 1 or level 2 Shouts.

Ahh I get what you mean. I've had that happen in combat too and I have no idea why. It's very frustrating and has gotten me killed before. So far I have not had that happen with the Kinect but I haven't used it a lot on my current character in combat either so I'm not 100% sure the problem is gone. I'll have to jump on my warrior and give it a try.

I have noticed that there's a bit more of a delay when using shouts with the Kinect but it's not much and the ability to use any shout without going into the menu far outweighs the minor inconvenience the small delay may cause. I do have trouble pronouncing the dragon language properly and it doesn't always work so I normally just use the English command and it hasn't failed so far. All the other commands have worked pretty flawlessly for me. I can't express how great it is being able to switch spells and weapons on the fly. That's my favorite part of the whole thing.

I would very much appreciate it if you would, and post again on what you find. Although, it seems I'm almost been completely pursuaded. Congrats Bethesda, I never imagined I would actually buy Kinect before it became bundled with the next gen Xbox (according to Game Informer it's very likely) and my current console inevitably died.

I have had that delay, with shouts and spells, I think it triggers when you try to shout while a spell is charging. I use a one handed/healing spell build, and cast spells a lot in melee; not entirely sure, but I think that is the problem : go to heal, have to Fus Ro for a stagger, both get locked out for a while.

Played my warrior a bit last night getting into a good many fights and never had the problem we were talking about. I can't say for sure it won't happen any more but I couldn't get it to happen so far. I will say I use different shouts that I wouldn't usually bother with because it was such a pain changing them all the time.

That settles it then, gonna get a Kinect tomorrow. Too tired from work right now, but the Fridays off are worth it. Also been too busy past couple of days to really play. Damn life, cutting into my gaming time.

But I do do that. I hold RB and shout "Fus" but nothing. happens.

Let me get this straight, I need to hold RB to use a shout in the dragon tongue? Can I have nothing equipped on RB, but still call out Fus ro DAh? Or even if I have fire breath equipped? I don't want to equip a shout and then have to use it because that seems pointless.

You hold RB only to shout in dragon; you dont have to if you say it in english. You dont have to have it equipped, it just activates the recognizing of dragon

I normally just use the english version for example I say "Unrelenting Force" because it recognizes those better and I don't have to worry about pressing a button. The only reason I would hold the button is if I only wanted to use level one or two of a shout. If you do the dragon shouts do them manually for a bit and listen to how your character is saying them because the game is pretty picky about the pronunciation on those.

Also Loz, you can do all levels of the shout when holding the button not just 1 and 2. I've held it and done Fus Ro Dah and it activated all 3 parts of the shout. It's still easier to just say "Unrelenting Force" without holding the button.

You don't have to put any shouts in your favorites list, or activate them, to use them with Kinect. That's the cool thing about it. You just say the name of the shout and it does it regardless of which one you want to use. Of course you do have to have them unlocked first. I was trying one last night on a newer character and it wouldn't work and when I checked the list to make sure I was saying it right I realized I hadn't unlocked it with a dragon soul yet. Doh!
